Once I started having some work from home days, it was great, but it is hard to have that balance of being at work and then being off work. It was easier in the sense that you are out of the house when at the office, but at home you're both. The biggest thing for me was having a separate work space from everything else going on at home.
Just the general feeling that I'm never really *off* work. I'm very fortunate in the sense that, aside from a few recurring meetings, my hours are flexible and no one really cares when I'm working so long as the work gets done. The downside to that is that because I am at home with the kids, I very rarely work a true 9 - 5 day. It'll be like 9 - 12, 1:30 - 2:30, 9 PM - 11 PM, etc. Not complaining because I know I'm lucky, but it would be nice to feel like I'm done for the day as soon as 5 PM hits.
Thing is, I can get through a few days with my kids at home if there is no other option. But if it was every day, I'd never meet my productivity expectations. Having dealt with an infant while I was WFH was intense. They only like to be contained for so long before they are on the move and wanting your full attention. I was physically and mentally drained.
I struggle to eat well. I put thought into what I’m feeding the kids, or packing in their lunches, but I don’t give myself the same consideration. I get caught up in work and forget I need some care and attention, too.
