Maybe if I didn’t have kids lol. 200k is nothing. Plan to work until at least 67.
I’ve made over $200k for the last 5 years and I am currently 45 years old. COL is too high to save enough to retire early. I’m hoping to leave my high cost city and move to a cheaper area. The goal is to retire by 62 if I’m lucky.
Yes, that's the plan. Crossed 200k at 29 and 34 now. Have about 1.2M in assets and surviving on $25k a year every year. Hoping to retire by 45 if I can keep my cost to $30k a year or less. By 45, im hoping to have at least $3M, which will allow me to draw at least $50k per year.
Could I ask where you're living outside of Boston that has $800 rent? Do you have roommates
I'm around there, single income family of five. I live in a MCOL area but we keep our costs relatively low and are able to save nearly half our gross income since making SM. I should be able to retire between 45 and 50 or at least switch to a lower stress job in a LCOL area near family (coast fire or barista FIRE). I may also try to keep this job at a reduced schedule and fully remote.
Note I saved much less as an associate and sr. I am also not expecting to make partner.
I saved like an anxious squirrel in my early 20s. Which I am thanking myself for now:
Made little over $200K when I hit 31 this past year. I backed off my retirement accounts to contribute to a taxable bridge with a goal to retire at 50 or before.
The only people retiring early are those without kids, somehow live in lcol area doing wfh, or have some form of inheritance/ parental assistance to rely on. Now, retiring early like 55, yes that’s possible with hard budgeting, but not 40
What will you do after retirement at 50? I’d be bored after 6 months of “doing whatever I want”
Lol retiring at 50 in public is basically retiring at 70 in other places, the amount of stress the job brings increases your average health age no doubt
