Has anyone did their tax llm with Georgetown’s online program? What were the short coming of the online program? How hard was it to find a job after the program? Thanks.

I am in it currently. The downside of online is making the same connections with faculty and students as the in person group. I can’t comment on the finding a job because I am working full time already in the field. As an observation though it seems most people have found jobs and there are really good opportunities such as the TIP process, where they bring firms in. Also if you make the effort, go to conferences, meet your professors you can make the connections, it just requires more time and energy from the online folks.

One last question, since you said you are working while doing your LLM, are you doing the program part-time or full time? I want to know if it is possible to do it full time while also working. Thanks.

I did my LLM during covid, so everything was virtual. It was OK but I definitely did not have an opportunity to connect with classmates and connecting with professors was more challenging. Doable, yes. Recommended for connection, provable not. Financial reason, probably, saved a ton by not living in DC.

Hi all! I’m applying to NYU tax llm and I’m pretty confident I can get in,but it’s unlikely I’ll receive a scholarship. I’m working at a non big4 consulting firm for about 1.5yrs now, doing mainly international with some M&A exposure. I want to do llm because I still want to shoot for biglaw. I have a small kid so it’ll be hard to do the program part time. Should I quit my current job and enroll full time? Meaning lose 1yr salary and taking on a job security risk. TIA!

Has anyone dealt with stuffing allocation in a non-hedge fund context? It seems even in the HF world the law is fuzzy in using aggregate reverse 704c principles in stuffing allocations. If we are talking asset class that isn’t really like marketable securities but might be able to treat it similarly solely by virtue of, say, valuation on a quarterly basis (contd)
