I had mine forgiven! After paying on an extended repayment plan for about 14 years while I was working in public service, Biden made the one-time exception for nonqualifying payment plans. This enabled me to have $45k forgiven. I had originally chosen a non-qualifying plan because I wanted to have money to spend on a downpayment. I got super lucky, and I’m so grateful.
No, and no not really. Middle class family that saved a lot for my college, and while I do feel that it's a little unfair that some people get it paid in full, I think the interest pause on federal loans helped me slow down and not worry about paying it off until I had to. By that time I had a job and enough to pay it off. I think college more or less worked out for me, and the people we really should be worrying about aren't the ones who took out federal loans, but those who were preyed on by third party services such as SM.
I am one year out of my undergrad btw, and I make lower than the avg expected starting salary, but my rent is low and I don't drive a car so I save a lot in that regard. I think the outlook for moving up is promising and I don't feel incredibly stuck.
