Rising Star
No industry people love and prefer B4 experience
Big 4 is more relevant than ever. And all the good industry jobs always go to ex-B4. A tough pill to swallow for the internal candidate that worked their tail off for 10 years and got passed up for the position.
I’m in FAAS and can echo what ey3 has said. I’ve also worked with private companies with poor internal controls. You gain a ton of experience in FAAS
Big 4 is good for the resume. Middle market firms are a better learning experience
Pro
Better opportunities I would still say yes. Career development.. I would not. I’ve worked at big 4 and middle market and I’ve learned miles more in the middle market than i ever had visibility into in the big 4.
Big 4 is very niche
Nothing is worth busy season hours.
This is my general opinion. They could dangle a huge salary in front of me and I would hand them a list of my medical accomodations the big one being I can only work 1 60 hour week a month. Somehow I am willing to bet a "better candidate" will come along.
Yes, especially with the rise of big tech. The talk of the town now is being a Silicon Valley software engineer or quant on Wall Street, not an accountant.
Does it matter for what?
I agree
The Big 4 is not some monolith that is 'all this' or 'all that.'
Who you work for, what you do, and what opportunities you have (and create) can make any place you work a great place or a 'fading' place.
The Big 4 firms each can provide experiences and networking that smaller organizations may not be able to provide in the same way.
If you have a chance to work for one, I recommend taking that chance and seeing where it can lead.
I don't know maybe things are a little different now but big for experience and a CPA. You pretty much write your ticket. Now, if you're in a competitive market, it may be take longer. You may consider other places. I would think of it this way. There are people with an MD but the MD's and interned at prestigious hospitals have an opportunity to work in a prestigious, hospital and or prestigious medical group... also you can get an MD for many places but if you get it from the big seven like a Wharton stanford MIT Harvard University of Chicago, Northwestern... The opportunities are endless.
Yes.
Got teased on working for long hours
Probably a comment from someone jealous.
Yes, big 4 experience and CPA are major factors in career developments and opportunities. Simply read job descriptions and note how many say, big 4 and cpa preferred.
