Is biglaw litigation slow right now?
Hello, I have an offer from Publicis Sapient for their product management internship program. Wondering if anyone has any insight into the program (exits, etc) and how the return offer looks like in terms of salary. I still also hold an interest in data science so might go with another offer but I’m not sure if it is a wise choice to let go of a PM offer while I have it.

(1/2) Honestly not trying to snarky. I was actually in your exact shoes in the past. I did a R1 with McKinsey over the phone in because I had a final round in Chicago with S&. It potentially cost me the McKinsey 2nd. However, that said there were numerous factors had to consider. 1) % I would get a MBB 2nd rd 2) Location - mine would have been Atlanta, I wanted to live in Chicago - post MBA 3) Culture. Truth is Strategy consulting is a grind. Whether you are at MBB or Big4. I will give you that it’s harder to enter into MBB outside of traditional on-ramps OCR. However, I know of a Rhodes Scholar who is doing Implementation work at McK. Just saying R1 is one hurdle, and frankly probably of you making it passes the next Rounds to offer is daunting
You can also always take it and the reneg.
Not the best practice but do what’s best for you
If you are seeing B4 as a loss already, then you should not join. Plain and simple.
FWIW I think the conversion from R1 interview to offer at MBB is <10%.
OP let me ask you a question: would you rather do Implementation work at McKinsey or real Strategy work at Deloitte?
FWIW implementation work at McKinsey is likely to be more “strategic” than what the call strategy work at Deloitte
Serious question: compared to your peers, where would you put yourself. Not just in terms of grades, but in terms of people skills.
If it’s not top 10% take the B4 offer.
Thanks EY1, my goals are to lead a P&L statement in a med device / pharma / or CPG firm. Honestly, the generalist experience will be more valuable - however the slight bit of self doubt hits me when I consider giving up the Big4+ implementation offer for MBB.
But after reading everyone’s insight, I am leaning towards accepting B4+. Y’all scaring me lol.
Based on your answer. Accept the big4 offer and continue to interview. You have nothing to loss. If you end up getting mbb decided which on you’re going to take. Also this happens all the time. If you choose to go mbb, as long as you are polite about declining the offer no one will hold it against you. People decline jobs all the time if they find something better.
Wtf is big4+
Not at Harvard/deloitte
Thanks partner1 for the insight.
The big4+ offer isn’t through the school. I got it through referral. I have about 3 weeks to accept it but I can delay it slightly (possibly).
Should I let my MBB know so they can escalate interviews? Or would that cause them to be sour?
They likely won't escalate interviews for that case (or any...), it's tough to pull off logistically. You could possibly talk to the Big 4 recruiter about moving the offer to the campus recruiting team. Pretty sure Penn's rules on offers apply to any offer to a current student from a firm that participates in campus recruiting for this reason. Kind of surprised they did this through a referral given you're a current student. Maybe check with Penn career services.
If not I might take McK1's advice to be honest, they shouldn't be making offers to current students with timelines outside of campus recruiting. This is one case where I wouldn't feel too guilty reneging. Feels like they're trying to pull a power move.
Go with big 4 at that point
Bird in the hand…
Can you help me understand why? I am thinking I can make the money up by fast track promotions and better exit opps, but losing out on that money right now cuts deep. For additional reference, I am in my mid 20s
How did the interview go? Update OP
MBB.
Why did you tag all of our firms?
(2/2) If you can quote Case In Point like a computer at will, you have the charm to win over a beauty pageant, and GPA/Test Scores are competitive at Penn I would say go MBB. I not take a hard look at the offer in hand DCF/opportunity cost ($ + Time) of re-cycling for Big 4 recruiting or other…IMHO
Well it’s not a loss, i am incredibly grateful for B4+ generous offer. But I am just thinking in terms of prestige, promotion timelines, exit opps and all the other factors students are bombarded with when recruiting.
I am not a professional in consulting so my knowledge about the industry is limited, hence why I am trying to seek your guidance!
Honestly, I’d deff put myself in top10. For example, I got military background and worked at F500 with promotions (all without a degree and going to school part time).
Well, there are plenty of vets applying for jobs. I work with a ton of them. That’s not really that special. F500 without a degree can be, but it depends on what the roles are. KPMG has jobs you can be promoted in without a degree. Doesn’t mean you’re top 10%, it means there’s a business need and it’s cheaper to promote internally.
I’m not saying this to discourage you, but you should do a serious comparison to your peers and try to look at it from a stranger’s perspective.
That’s really hard to do, but a huge part of campus recruiting is personality in addition to grades and intelligence. Looking at yourself as a whole person and seriously assessing where you’d fall compared to everyone else will give you an idea of chances to a MBB.
I’d consider big4+ firms like big 4 and LEK, OW, etc.
Lmk if that’s not the case.
Thanks EY1 - that’s some sound insight. For LEK, I am doing implantation/transformation work. Talked to some people and this one guy at my level is doing staff aug and PMO for a senior level person at the client.
I'm also FGLI, and honestly didn't know what consulting really was before applying from Penn MBA (long story). Am at MBB now.
Do you have to decide before the recruiting cycle is up? How long are they giving you on the Big 4 offer? If I remember Penn had rules on when offers could expire to allow you the option to choose.
If you can't wait, talk to classmates from MBB, do a case with them, and ask them their honest take on your chances (bearing in mind things change from year to year). If they say good chance, remember it's still a bit of a crapshoot depending on the person who interviews you, the case, and day of performance.
My take is you're better of at MBB, but I don't think it's as life altering as some on fishbowl make it out to seem.
Bird in the hand!
Lek pays more if that’s what you’re asking
Explain the situation to your recruiter and ask if you can be considered as an experienced hire. Starting base still won’t match but will get you halfway there and might make your decision easier.
