I've been here for 5 years, but probably would not move here today.
The weather, outdoor activities, people Mexican food, etc are mostly all great.
However, the cost of housing has become absurd compared to salaries. Salaries are slightly higher than 5 years ago, but housing costs are up ~60%+. A large portion your age group lives with roommates.
If you're happy renting and/or eventually buying a 1 bdrm apt, you can do that with your salary. Buying a house or townhouse.... you'll need to double your OTE.
I'm working remotely because I couldn't find a local job to keep up with costs.
Seconding this. I’m 32 making $360k a year. I’m living with my parents this year and next year to save up for a down payment for a house.
I think the only reason people are discouraging you from moving is because it will make housing costs even higher 😅
Things to consider: gas can be $7, eggs $8
BUT it is my favorite place I have ever lived. I feel ok and I make $160k and have a month-to-month 1 bedroom lease so I don’t feel “locked into” anything, would maybe feel less ok if I was.
San Diego is basically all the good parts of LA and not the bad. And the people are some of the most friendly and chill I’ve ever met. If you’re into music, go to festivals and shows and you will definitely meet people, or meet people at the gym since San Diego is so active. Worst case you’re feeling lonely and take a sunset walk on the beach. Go to meetups, join the FB groups, leave the house (can be hard when working remotely but force yourself to) and you’ll have a community in no time
To add to the above, renting is slightly more affordable but also pretty expensive overall. But I love living here and can’t imagine living elsewhere now.
What’s driving the interest in SD? SD is awesome, but it’s sooo expensive, and I’ve Denver is great too!
I love SD. I left for 3 years (TX) then came back. 🤣 Definitely follow your heart, but I’d consider using SD as a vacation spot if you’re so established in Denver.
