I was just offered a CUNY role. The title is Higher Education Assistant. According to Glassdoor, the average annual pay for that role is $83,418. However, I was offered $62,500. I requested for the minimum annual salary to be 75k. Does anyone have experience navigating the CUNY system and their pay?

Also a senior in Federal Audit. If you can, get some commercial experience (if you haven’t gotten it already). During your interviews, focus mainly on your commercial experience. I’ve had quite a bit of commercial experience and to be honest, federal isn’t all that different. We test revenue, expenses, property, estimates, etc. If you don’t have commercial experience and still want to interview, focus on what you do in Federal that can be easily transferred to commercial and you should be fine
Get on some public company audits. Then try to exit.

I know seniors in fed audit that left for SEC reporting roles with virtually no experience in the area.
You can also just ask your PML to let you transfer to the Tyson’s office if you’re that worried.
Hi friend! Following lol
wait but you’re a senior in public how much more experience are they looking for lol
Got it
Are you in government contracting or GPS?

Yeah. I’ve never heard anyone outside of EY use it, and KPMG and EY are the only B4 that actively audit federal clients.
All the smaller public firms that bid on the small agencies and sub for KPMG or EY also tend to refer to it as federal, if they even make the distinction.
Non-profits might also be a good option
Is federal/non-commercial audit really looked down upon? Isn’t it basically the same with just a few different regulations and procedure with just smaller clients and engagements?

Some federal clients are truly massive. Small space, so don’t want to say too much, but I know several federal jobs that are much larger than some public company audits.
To the main question: it depends on how you sell it. It can be more difficult to find a job as the risks for US government entities are different so the areas of focus in an audit are different i.e. revenue just isn’t a big deal for most federal clients. It’s tested, but it’s hardly the biggest concern. You could go through 5 years in the fed practice and never touch a revenue account depending on the clients you get assigned to.
That said, plenty of people leave for commercial jobs, so it’s not that difficult.
