Associate Director is a level 29, so 120-160k base depending on YOE. You can obviously find higher pay elsewhere, but WLB is pretty great at Optum/UnitedHealth. Can be tough to get promoted internally, but from what I’ve heard moving to other departments under your same VP is a great way to move up faster than the ~3 years it normally takes.

Pay bands are set by location and grade level. Technically, the full pay band is something like $95-175k for a grade 29 in Minneapolis, but my original guess was based on what I’ve seen/heard for consultants. It may be lower if you are in a lower COL area. Bonuses have been less than target the past few years, and raises in the 3-5% range, so not great on either front there. I guess that’s the trade off for really good WLB.

Marriage or promotion 😞 I’m on track to make partner at my company. Due to the audit services we sell, we have to disclose all financial relationships, including those of our SOs. I’m engaged to a private investor, and there is no way he is going to disclose/sell investments because my company tells him to (I don’t blame him; I wouldn’t do this, in his position, either). This means I have to quit if I want to marry him 😞 Anyone else experience this kind of compromise / challenge? Any advice?

My firm is paying for my MBA and if I leave now I’ll have to pay anything they’ve paid all back. Assuming I leave now, would it be possible for me to get a student loan to pay the firm back or would it have to be a personal loan since it’s not going directly to school to but rather paying the firm for school? How easy is it to settle a case when working at a plaintiff’s firm? (Please excuse my lack of knowledge here.) I read about how much people hate litigation/are trying to get out and then I have friends who talk about how they want to go to the plaintiff’s side because you can make a percentage of your settlements AND there are no billable requirements. I’m in the former boat of trying to leave litigation altogether to go into corporate law. Is it all just “the grass is greener” talk?
