Hi everyone— I’m an incoming law student and would love ANY tips on how to minimize debt during law school, outside of scholarships (e.g., day-to-day living, PT work after 1L). I was accepted to a T10 school as an ED applicant, and while I’m incredibly excited to start, I want to ensure I minimize the limitations imposed by student debt. Additional context— I have a good amount saved up from working and my partner will be working remotely while I’m in school. TIA!

Definitely recommend part-time jobs 2L and 3L year. I worked in the law library and as a Lexis rep. Pay was low but enough to help with living expenses, and the jobs were very low key and low stress. I spent most of my time studying or doing homework. Otherwise, typical money-saving advice applies: cook at home, avoid an intense Sbux habit, etc. And look at your finances and student loan rates to be smart about what to pay out of pocket vs borrowing.

I recently sign a lease. The apartment will put my security deposit into an interest-bearing account and requires me to fill out a form W9. I will join EY this June and just wondering if this is ok in terms of the independence rule. I guess the apartment will put my deposit in some sort of funds. Anyone with EY has experience? Reading the independence brochure, looks like it does not specify something related to this scenario but just wanted to confirm . TIA!

Folks making more than £100K: How do you deal with the 60% effective tax rate on the 100-125K bracket? (HMRC gradually reduces your £12,750 personal tax-free allowance to £0.)

This is the first time it is happening to me. With one month to go until the end of the tax year, I'm thinking of making a one-off extra pension contribution next payroll.

Any other effective strategies with only one month to go?

Would you say Austin’s real estate market will go through a correction in 2022? I am considering there in a few months (wife and 3 kids) from a normal-priced city. While we can afford a house there, I am scared of getting into an extremely risky investment seeing such fast growing prices in 2021. I’ve read both bull and bear scenarios online and I’d like to get some “Bowl’s” thoughts. Thanks!

I’m looking for assistance on building your own portfolio in my traditional 401K. I’ve been reading that it’s important to choose funds with low expense ratios. Also, that it is recommended to have at least one US stock, international stock , and bond. I am 24yo so ideally, I’d want to allocate 90%-100% to stocks and 0%-10% to the bond. Any other things I should be looking at?

This one is going to make some of y’all mad, but it’s so annoyingly unnecessary. The most irritating part is “is it a shirt day or a skirt day”…. Like women don’t wear shirts with skirts and men don’t wear shirts with pants. Shirts and skirts are not mutually exclusive. I’ll just leave this here.
