Hi, would like some help with deliberating my offer. Currently in MPLS with an offer to jump firms to PwC and move to NYC. The offer is 79k (10k raise) with 8k sign bonus (1+ YOE). Concerned that the raise isn’t enough to be significant due to CoL. Thoughts would be extremely helpful and appreciated.

MPLS -> NYC isn't worth $10k

like

I mean. You have 1-ish years of experience and would be at 79k. That’s pretty good for an accounting like of service at any firm

like

mYC is at least a 10% col increase from lcol

like

online calculators place a 69k salary (nice) in mpls being equivalent to around 150-170k in NYC, which obviously this bump doesn't get you to. plus if the dream is to live in NYC, you're not going to have much fun at 79k. either negotiate a bigger bump or wait another year or two.

like

This is the way. However, you're early career and probably only going to get that right now. I'd stick it out in the cities until year 3-4 and then jump.

like

I just jumped from KPMG to PwC and am very happy. I would try to get them to $10k on the sign on tho.

like

Sounds like they are playing hardball. If you are really considering the offer, you can let them know that it would seal the deal for you, and I’m sure they’d make it happen. We are hurting for people so I can’t imagine they’d let a good candidate slip by over $2k

MY help to know where you are located now

OP is assuming everyone knows the acronym - they are in Minneapolis, Minnesota

like

Agreed. Need to negotiate higher raise for NYC.

Interview tomorrow for a tax associate opening at RSM. Been working in a mid-size city (different firm) that is about 70 minutes from this new home office in a larger metro. How flexible is WFH or dual model going forward post Covid? Am interested in this position and going to tax, but not be able to relocate for family reasons. Don’t want to drive 700 miles per week M-F. What will dual model be like going forward? 1-2 times week, 4-5 month? Seems like tax was more flexible than audit pre-Covid
