I am a graduating student who just got offered 65k for a solution analyst role at Deloitte USDC (Data Engineering Focus). From reading previous posts it seems to be a lot of negative thoughts surrounding the USDC, but straight out of college is this a good opportunity?
I'm looking to gain as much experience as possible out of college in an IT role and wondering what exit opportunities may be in place a year or two down the road if there is little/slow progression.
Any Advice?

There’s an interstitial route through the brand/innovation consulting places. Fahrenheit/Sylvain/IDEO. Bit easier for ex-advertising and not wanting to do an MBA. It’s pretty difficult advertising gets stigmatized in those worlds and the default mindset, attitude tools and processes are all pretty different. I’ve been meaning to write something about that specific step.
@director1 MBA being generic is exactly what you need to break into consulting, because it will give you the tools to understand Client's business and their challenges. Consulting is generic.
@OP, if you want to get into "real" top-tier consulting, you have two routes:
Come in as a lateral hire at a consultant level or equivalent (which is where MBA or PhD hires come in as well) = general strategy work
OR
Join a specialized unit focused on marketing or sales (which will hire ex-agency folks with lots of experience) = providing expert support to the generalist management consulting teams
Thanks for the question, I am also interested in pivoting from agency to general consultancy. I have start-up tech experience and four years of Strategy experience for media clients. @publicis Sapient 1, how does one pivot internally into the consultant roles? Are there any projects you recommend looking into to add to a resume?
@The Thread. From the outside, it seems like there is an overlap in the core competencies of a strong strategist at an agency and a consultant. Curious to get the group's thoughts on how to position yourself for this type of pivot.
My best advise is to seek a recommendation from someone at the firm. So network and then get a referral. That’s how I did the switch from advertising to EY.
Makes sense. Been working on that, a bit slow in these times. What did you switch from and to what practice at EY?
I'm thinking the same. I'm thinking MBA from a top tier school. Someone with knowledge - please correct me if I'm wrong.
What part of consulting? Many wouldn't need you to have an MBA
@PS1, What capacity are you referring to specifically?
