How do I find a good tax professional who can handle doing returns for someone who was both in FL/NYC for a material amount of time?
My tax professional mentioned there’s no straight answer for how to tax and if I owe nyc taxes or not

Are you/were you actually a part year resident in both states? If you are a part year resident of NYC you’d owe nyc income taxes for the time you were a part year resident.

If u received your W-2 and it shows the wages u worked for NY and the taxes withheld for NY you must file a NY return ( nonresident if u residency is a different state)
As for Florida it doesn’t matter cuz they don’t have income tax so you are not required to file a FL return.

If any NYS was withheld, the W-2 will show all wages sourced to NY.

Agreed this isnt a super hard return. Need the number of days you spent in NY to determine if you’re treated as a full year resident for the state. Enter the number of months for NYC.

Could be a remote worker problem but still not hard.

From a financial standpoint in this market, which would be a better approach in Austin -

1. Buy a ~8-850k house that meets most of our ideal criteria (size, schools, interiors etc) to stay long term

2. Buy a ~5-550k house that’s not ideal with the plan of moving into an ideal home in 4-5 years when kid is ready for school.

How easy is it to get a mortgage for the second home?

Household income - 300k

Love how BS credit score is. Got my score up to 800 last month only to go on vacation so my credit utilization went up to 8% due to the increased spending and my score dropped 35 points because I didn’t immediately pay the balance after charging the purchases. I always pay my balance in full each month and have never missed a payment, how is 8% credit utilization determined to be that big of a risk that my score got immediately wrecked, I don’t understand
