How do I get promoted to audit senior? Background - worked about a year and half at large regional firm and left before promotion as I got picked up at B4. Thought it would be better on resume, and I was getting worked to death to the point of multiple mental breakdowns. Was leading all my engagements, doing well. Get to B4, been little under a year and I’m still getting treated like a first year after getting on my perm engagement a couple months ago. Feel like I made a mistake switching.

Welcome to big4. Transfer to a middle market firm as a senior.

like

If I’m not mistaken PwC has three levels of associates before senior so give it time. Most transfers especially at an associate level are treated as new because you’re still learning the firms methodology and way of doing things.

I’m sure you have a career coach so talk to them about you goal of making Senior this upcoming year and see if that’s a realistic time frame. Also talk to the seniors you work with and managers to find out what you can improve on to have them support your promotion.

like

Are you objectively being overworked compared to peers (i.e. assigned more projects) or are you having trouble getting used to pwc methodology? Either way, you should definitely talk to either 1.your mentor / counselor or 2. Someone on your engagement team that you can trust. Big 4 audit is not rocket science, I think everyone can do it but they just need coaching. I am guessing if you are having a very hard time, you haven’t met a good team yet. Try to find a senior / manager that you can trust and talk to them to discuss how you can improve / if you think you are overworked, talk about reallocating your load

Agree! A resume with two jumps at staff level is a red flag.

Let me clarify as I ran out of space in my original post - I was being overworked at my previous firm, which I thought supported my decision to leave at the time.

big 4 audit is like state flagship schools. You have some high performers, a lot of average performers, and some low performers. But everyone thinks they are the high performer and acts that way, hence the image 😂but trust me, staff 2’s that need hand holding for everything are not getting super high reviews from me. If you proactively take responsibility and show that you are ready to act at a senior level, you will set yourself apart from your peers who want to be spoon fed everything. (But at the same time you should ask yourself if you want to go that extra mile, the comp won’t be drastically different and you might get 6 months early promo, but that’s about it for your reward.)

Advice needed: looking to leave public accounting and tax for good. I have two offers between a financial analyst and an accountant role. Based on your experience, which of the two has the best/better exit opportunities (should I decide to pursue the finance realm or something else) and better work life balance? The bigger pay as an analyst is tempting, but the company benefits are meh.

Sooooo bored with the work but love the money and am generally happy with the team/people I work with. Should I lateral or go in-house so I get a chance to work those management/stakeholder engagement muscles? Just don’t feel challenged anymore. Is another option to talk to the partners and ask for more interesting/higher quality work?

Hi All!
This is my first post in Fishbowl, I'm looking for some genuine guidance on below query.

I have a total of 8.1 yrs of development experience in Java, Bigdata and Hadoop (new to it).
I got an offer from Capgemini for Manager/C2 designation with a CTC of 24 LPA. I just wanted to know the roles and responsibilities at this designation.
Will it be a profile shift from technical to managerial position or is just a designation (as per HR) the actual job would be to lead/guide any team?
Thanks

Does anyone have the 2020 SHRM books for sale or to borrow? My job won’t contribute towards my certification. I’ve already paid for my test. I have the books from 2015 but I’d like to study from the 2020. I tried finding them online to purchase but sellers of affordable books aren’t responding.

Planning to take the CIPP and CIPM. Will be doing self-study. What is the “book” everyone refers to for studying? Is it just the “study guide” the IAPP sells? Does anyone know if the study guides and sample questions you can buy on amazon are sufficient to use for passing? Appreciate any and all advice.
