How do vacations at Latham work? I know it’s unlimited PTO but do you get coverage and are able to disconnect or are you expected to work if stuff comes through? Considering a lateral offer and trying to compare to existing firm (think STB/DPW).

Depends team by team but technically the staffer is required to get you coverage, but does not always work like that in theory. Also you need to remember that hours requirements are a thing at Latham and not at the other spots u listed. In practice, much harder to take a long vacation

like

Latham NY corporate is also a garbage place to work as a lateral

Ehhhh if at DPW/STB I’d stay put. But I guess it depends on the practice group. Feel free to DM if you wanna discuss

Hello, I have accepted an offer at a competitor company and sent in my resignation letter. My start date is 5 weeks from now so I put in my end date 4 weeks from date letter was signed. The manager said I had to leave the job in 2 days and the company can only play 2 weeks of work. Is it normal how they do that?

EY 🐠 - potentially starting with the firm soon, and my partner is due to have our first in April. Given the 1 year service requirement for leave, would I have the option to take PTO during birth and use parental leave after my 1 year of service? Appreciate any guidance here

How are you all feeling about going into the holiday season while being remote? Missing the company holiday parties, or happy to be able to do your own thing?

If buy the partners you work with regularly a holiday gift, how much do you spend? Usually I get baked goods or food items which you can’t tell the actual amount spent on. This year, though, I’d like to support local restaurants by encouraging people to order takeout—hence, giving gift cards.

How much is appropriate for a restaurant gift card from an associate to a partner?

What's the longest vacation you've taken and where did you go? Thinking about capitalizing on my unlimited PTO and want some ideas.

For all you retail people...are you experiencing a very slow holiday season? I am a retail manager and I feel like this season has been freakishly slow. I thought we would at least match last year's number or be up a little bit but we are trending down. I talked to employees of other stores in the mall and they are saying the same thing. Is anyone else experiencing this in their market?

I am looking to make a career change to HR. I currently make 75K as a sales and development coach. I had a recent offer for a state government position in a talent acquisition role but I’d be taking a $25K pay cut. I am extremely over qualified for the position but it could possibly be a stepping stone and gives me the time to acquire SHRM certifications and possibly start taking classes to get my MBA. My question is those currently in an HR role, would this move make sense to you?

But, sometimes I feel stupid here, even for work which I have done previously. It's like I'm unable to understand instructions the first time around.
