How do you draw boundaries with coworkers?

One coworker is often asking me if I have permission to do things I am doing or second guessing me. Nothing about me screams rule breaker. So, I am not sure why this is a reoccurring theme. I am practicing within my scope and assigned duties, and explained it a few times. My boss is knowledgeable of my work, and granted permission for anything new I've initiated. I would like a polite way to end this line of questioning.

Politely but firmly say, “I appreciate your concern, but I’m confident in my responsibilities and have my manager's approval." This sets a boundary without being confrontational, reminding them you’re capable and authorized in your role.

I totally agree with this.

Could say: I feel uncomfortable (annoyed, frustrated…) when you question me about having permission (which I do). I will no longer respond to you when you ask questions that imply I don’t.

Thank you for the feedback, it was helpful. Now I know what to say when they ask again.

Just talk to them like they're an overly curious child. "Of course I have permission..." or "Of course I know what I'm doing..." Over time they may get the message that you're not amused with their busybody attitude.

Wouldn’t recommend. Feels passive aggressive.

My ASM is lazy and is incapable of doing the easiest basic tasks with recruitment. She receives all my end of day updates, is cc’d on all emails, makes me fill out 5 repetitive excel/smart sheet, and joins all my meetings but she still wants to call having me 5x daily about updates. I’m always the one to go to if other recruiters fail to meet client deadlines and cleaning up recruiters mistakes. How do I even handle this to begin with?

Building out a new function at my company, top 15 bank in the US, and scheduled a 90 minute meeting last week for today. Invite included an agenda and a teams link to the document we would be reviewing. Also asked for attendees to review ahead. 20 minutes in, my co-worker exclaims while I’m mi-sentence we should meet Thurs. after having a chance to review content… WHAT?! What should I have done in that situation?

Got braids. You'd think I literally got a face transplant from how shook my coworkers are. I would say over 10 people have stopped me to ask about them or comment on them and I've been at work for maybe 2 1/2 hours. It's all been positive, but am I wrong for still finding it annoying? They don't lose their minds when Sarah gets bangs or whatever so I wish they could keep that same energy.

No, but FR let's talk about being open and accepted in the workplace? How did you do that? How (un) friendly is the work environment?

Thankyaaaaaaaalll 😘😘😘

My old employer asked me if I wanted to come back to the company as a manager. The pay will likely be much better and the position holds more responsibility than I’ve had before, so overall it would be a step up. The issue is I left the company because of an abusive manager who constantly put me down and made me feel like I wasn’t doing anything right. If I come back I’d be working under her again. I’m torn because the opportunity is great but the stress was awful. Continued in comments…

I have been working at midnight, on Sunday mornings but I am human, I make mistakes, she just blames me instead of teaching.

I am worried if I tell my upcoming employer about being currently on OPT they will freak out and take back their offer even doh I can work and don’t need their sponsorship.

Do I have to tell ? Has anyone experience this before?

Hello! I’m currently a Administrative assistant now working at a major medical system in Baltimore. I’ve previously worked for 10 years as a medical assistant in a variety of specialties and primary care. Lately, I’ve been feeling a bit stuck as to my next step. Part of me want to go into management, another part is saying go get your RN, and the other is saying go into Social Work. I’m all over the place. Any ideas? And how would I be able to cross over to management?
