I definitely haven’t perfected this but some things that help me are leaving my phone in another room (if I’m working from home) and setting times to be productive and then taking a break - look up the pomodoro technique! 25 mins work 5 min break… also I listen to a podcast because it’s like you’re kinda multitasking and have something semi distracting but depending on the type of work you do you can get stuff done while listening, and then break when the podcast is over. Also keeping a notepad next to you to write down random thoughts like ah I need to run that errand after work so you don’t forget but it helps you remember for later instead of letting us distract you
Yea I definitely have to use the 15 sec rewind often haha - and I do 1 sticky note for work stuff I think of and 1 sticky for random personal things I think of!
Can’t help ya as I’m wondering about this as well, but has anyone noticed that neurodivergence seems to get left out of firms’ DE&I efforts? I’d love to see more support of neurodivergent people in professional settings.
Depending on your comfort level, you may want to consider seeking help from a mental health professional. I was struggling a few years ago and after seeing a psychiatrist for the first time, it was very clear to us both that I was suffering from moderate to severe ADHD. Concerta and some lifestyle changes have made an immensely positive change in my life since, both at work and in my personal life.
Just wanted to point out depression and anxiety can be co-morbid conditions due to the struggles with self-managing adhd (or other mental illness). Try going to see a specialist so the questions and answers are tailored and interpreted with this consideration in mind. A non-specialist might overlook the close connection
Tracking. When I’m at home I usually work with EDM music and aromatherapy diffuser on. I also have a standup desk and from time to time use that with a balance board underneath my feet. All of these other things simultaneously stimulating other senses keeps my brain busy enough to let me somewhat focus on work and helps my brain stay focused. Still a struggle. Open to hear what works for others.
I highly suggest going to talk to a psychologist or psychiatrist. There’s no shame in it if that’s what’s holding you back. If you get diagnosed they have multiple different medications to help. Some stimulants, some are not. Best decision I’ve ever made. Has helped me tremendously
I just started taking ADHD meds after the same problem. Still working to get dosage correct but it has helped me some already. No shame in meds!
Same. Been struggling immensely...
I just ordered lions mane to help with focus… it’s not that expensive so could be a decent natural option
I used to drink MudWtr and it had lions mane and other mushrooms in there, but that was kind of expensive compared to other alternatives
I find the Pomodoro technique to work. 25 on, 5 off, every 4th break is 15 minutes.
I know when I was in high school I would listen to rock music while doing my homework; my mom would always tell me to turn it off. I told her it helped me study. Now as an adult, I listen to Audibles. It now helps me stay on task. As a bookkeeper, you would think it would distract but I have a hard time working without my headset on. My daughter swears I have ADHD but I have never been diagnosed.
