In commercial, folks on here say it's less than worthless but I wouldn't know about that.
In government contracting, which I do know, it's quite useful for getting jobs where you're the lead on a contract and directly interfacing with the government client. In addition, a lot of old school fortune 500- type firms really respect it - think insurance, health care, hospitals.
Thanks that's good info. I am in commercial consulting. Not thinking about moving to Federal or rather not eligible he...he

I was in government contracting for a dozen years and heard people talking about PMP all the time. Been in private sector for two years now and haven’t heard it mentioned once. Definitely industry dependent.
In my experience, it’s been very valuable on highly regulatory projects (federal, banking, healthcare) and it’s worthless to the point I’ve actually been told to take it off my resume on other commercial projects.
What benefit would removing it from your resume offer?
Yep, if you are in DC, might as well have it.

It’s a “nice to have”, but not a “must have” in commercial consulting. I personally don’t think much of the PMP as I have not seen the correlation between the certification and good Project Management.

Yeah, just say so. It’s all fluff and they don’t audit really...

A summary of above: government clients that are way behind the times still like it. All companies living in the real world recognise it is worse than useless (you had the bad judgement to waste your time getting it).
I think it helps to know the differences in agile and waterfall these days and if you have the pmp, it can at least show you know half the equation. If I had to choose certification now, I’d say more demand in agile. Leave it on external resume but not as important to tell clients.

Yeah and I anticipate there will be even more in next year's update.
Defense companies love PMP.
