How likely is to get promoted to Senior Manager after 3 years as Manager in public accounting?

It’s probably also based on how well you set the table for it. If you put your head down and say nothing, this is probably not as effective as talking about promotion year(s) in advance. Communicate with your bosses, set your expectations well ahead of time, and ask about what you need to do to get there well ahead of time

Without knowing your firm and how they are currently staffed at each level this is really hard to answer.

If you are rated 4-5 each year then it’s very reasonable

Thats awesome! Congrats :)

Depends are opportunity. If you are already functioning as a senior manager on your accounts, very likely after 3 years. Also, if a senior manager above you gets promoted to PPMD, also likely after 3 years.

Standard seems as long as you handle responsibility well.

Went from a big firm to work for a smaller firm. The people in the smaller firm are protective of their work and are good by their work too. I no longer feel chaos or stress. I am treated with respect and my schedule is more normal. I am even working more billable hours than before, but it feels like a seamless experience. I don’t work then past 5pm or anything out of the ordinary for this time of the year. I am so grateful!

I just spoke with a software architect that went back to school to learn software engineering after law school because it was more lucrative and had less hours. He’s worked his way up and has the skills and authority to work 6:30am-10am and gets to work remotely. We discussed that results/outputs is better than billable time like in law and public accounting. Yet, his parents and others would view him as “lazy” but he does his job and makes a fantastic living. Time>Money and Results>Hours
