It depends on your goals! I spent about 9-12 months looking but I was picky about what I wanted both in salary and in work and in company. looking back at offers and recruiters reaching out a reasonable timeline might’ve been 0-1 months: any job (maybe not best pay or exactly work I wanted) 1-3 months: a well-paying job (maybe not exactly work I wanted)—included multiple rounds of interviews at bigger name companies 4-6 months: a well paying job that you want. This includes the time to network, practice interviews, get interviews, go through rounds, etc. 6+ months: all of the above but a major change in industry (because your work experience isn’t directly applicable so it might be harder to get interviews) I’ll caveat all of the above by saying it will really vary. If you’re a consultant going for a typical post consulting job it could take the 1-3 month range if things go smoothly. But here’s a good checklist: -Does the job I want require time to network? -does the job I want require time to study for interviews? -Do I want a new job just for stable income or because I like that work (not being picky about the type of job makes it less time)? -Am I making a major industry change? (will take longer) -How much do I care about location (will take longer) -if I get offered the position will I take it regardless of company? I.e would you be fine being a PM at a no-name vs. waiting for the shot at FAANG?

Partially before, partially during.

At your level it could be fairly quick in a normal environment. These days aren’t normal. I would start looking and applying if you’re really worried. There may be a great opportunity out there for you. This might also be a good time to think about upskilling if there’s something you want to learn. I’m thinking short courses on coding, data/analytics, etc. This could be a very valuable time for you to invest in yourself. I think almost everyone is anxious about the next couple years. Crucible moments like this can really accelerate someone’s learning and development.

It sounds worse than it is. Unemployment with whatever the gov lands on will be pretty solid. Assume you saved something and you can put student loans on hold getting laid off will be more of a paid time to search rather than stressing while on a sinking ship

I exited by contacting a broker and sold then I moved on a year later.

Which boutique?

3 years off and on. I was also traveling full time on projects where I had little privacy for calls, went though some medical issues and bought/sold a house. (Hence the "off")

I received an offer from one of the MBBs (Analyst position - banking benchmarks team). The offer briefly mentions that I'd receive performance bonus, but doesnt mention any range (% bracket). Nor does the compensation structure has any component of Performance Bonus (which is usually a part of TC) Should I ask the recruiter on this? What to do? Thanks in advance!

Is it worth it to go back to school for a better track to a FAANG company? The division I’m currently in seems like there are no good opportunities, and I have the funds available to finish my undergraduate full time (Canada). I applied to Amazon before for a highly senior position and made it to final interview so I think I would have a better chance for a new grad type role.

I prefer to leave consulting but could stay off the work and work life balance were better. Does anyone else feel like their burn-out cycle is shorter? It used to take me about 2 years of grind before I hit a burn-out phase where I needed to do some serious recuperating. It feels like I'm at 3 months now, or even less. I've already spoken to my wife about building quarterly mini-vacations into my schedule just to keep my energy up. And by burn-out, I mean you're at the point that every single ball you are juggling can drop and you get fired and almost see that as a blessing.

We had new neighbors move in across the street a few months ago. A couple with a child of about 7 years old who clearly has a cognitive disability of some sort (I suspect autism). I’m becoming concerned about him. He seems to spend a good amount of time alone outdoors. He often flags down passers by to chat. I thought perhaps his parents kept an eye on him through the window, but today he was hanging on a neighbor’s front stoop for a good half hour. I went over to talk to him and see if (con’t)

Could use some structural layout help for a deliverable: Creating a one-page report that reflects a product offering, its benefits, and its significance (the ‘so what’) - currently only having multiple bullet points for each as the content, but think it’s not suitable aesthetically for a presentation. Any suggestions for how I should best format it for exec management? This isn’t a PPT.

Just got an offer at ACN as a Strategy Manager and HR made it clear that parental leave was 2 weeks fully paid for men. Theoretically up until 12 weeks is covered by NY State ($900 weekly). What would you do? Have you seen men take a few months off for parental leave in consulting even if unpaid?
