This might be an unpopular opinion, but living together almost certainly prolongs any chance of an engagement. Why should the man propose if he already has a “wife” for free?
Marriage is the guarantee of commitment 🤷♂️
Yeah, it stings if your girlfriend leaves you for someone, but its significantly worse if your wife does, since there’s a different expectation of commitment.
Plus, if a girl is self respecting enough, I’d hope she wouldn’t live with a guy who didn’t put a ring on it for years- though both men and women using one another for free rent and emotional validation is a tale as old as time lol. From bum boyfriends to gold diggers haha
Never. Until marriage. After a long relationship, I think this would be best for some people.

Spicy take but pretty quickly- maybe 6-8 months or something. I don’t want to be with someone for years only to find out we don’t mesh as people who live together.
Open to it also just being a prolonged work type vacation or something- but there’s definitely a need to verify we mesh not just in the romantic sense.
I moved in after 6 months and we are now going on our 8th year together.

I did it at 8 months, but also knew the relationship was heading towards marriage.

Only thing I will say is that marriage is a commitment on both ends that there will an honest and strong effort to make this work. Whereas in a “situationship” there’s none. So for me, if you want us, propose and marry me. Period.

I do 3-6 months if I’ve seen her stressed and under pressure

You learn a lot about someone when you see the stressed and under pressure.
My two cents on this is that the ideal time might be inversely proportional to the couple’s degree of financial stability and independence.
Which means basically that the older and richer you are, the less time you need to make this decision.

Won’t do it until marriage!

I would consider moving in with someone around 9 months, but probably having multiple discussions about it and not actually moving in until after a year.
For me, it was unofficial at 2 months but I stayed at my old apartment maybe once or twice in the six months following that. Moved in officially at 8 months. Moved to a different state together at 11 months. We’re coming up on a year in this place and I couldn’t be happier. I never expected to move in together this quickly but it has been completely natural.
Moved in with mine after 6 months. Granted, she had an amazing opp to go to a top tier business school. My job let me work from another office. I was ready for a change too. So damn glad I did it.
