A lot of us want to leave consulting to get P&L ownership, so if that’s what he wants long term it seems silly to turn it down now just to try to get it back later. It’s not easy to get true P&L ownership from consulting, so I wouldn’t take it for granted that you can just go get the opportunity again whenever you want.
If he was already in consulting before he’s probably used to the fast pace and variety of projects/clients you get to see. Industry might be too boring for him, and the additional 30K is a big plus. Though if he’ll be managing a team and P&L on his own it might be a bit less boring.
I’ve only ever worked in consulting but did an internship in industry during my MBA to see the other side of the coin. Was bored outta my mind on some days. If I stay in consulting, I think always having something somewhat interesting to do would be one of the biggest reasons.
I’m post-MBA at Deloitte.
There are days I miss the strategic discretion I had at the software firm I interned at. I owned revenue growth projects that I pitched to the C-suite, one of which resulted in the creation of a Director position.
However, where I was at with my career and my, life, I picked Deloitte for 3 main reasons:
1. Compensation.
2. Geography. I wanted to be closer to my family and my girlfriend’s family
3. Better exits/flexibility. I felt confident enough that when it comes time to exit, I could find a role with the level of strategic/financial discretion I desire OR have enough saved to start my own business for ~1yr

Left consulting to manage a P&L and while it’s never dull if things aren’t going great, those P&L targets always loom over you
What level at Deloitte ?
He’d be an SC (traditional post-MBA level)
Which firm for GM?
Large nationwide utility provider type firm
Depends upon your family situation (kids etc) , do you need the extra money, how important is WLB
IMO, after an MBA it’s good to do consulting for a few years - faster career and comp progression and better exit options (Exceptions Apply)
Best ROI is Consulting next 2 years exit at Manager level to Industry/ another consulting firm (depending upon your personal preferences)
Above will get you better returns, exit options and comp. Play the long game since WLB is not #1 priority
IMO, I would do this but everyone is different
What does he think? What does he want? You as a wife can decide for him or ask internet but first ask him. It is important for him to make this decision and own it.
He has experienced consulting, now experience GM. He will have better WLB
