I'll be joining tw as UI Lead, soon.
I'm a javascript/react developer since inception of my career & haven't worked much on CICD/JENKINS and similar technology.
Should I be worried that as a lead I don't know these and will it affect by job security?
Ps- I'm good at UI,js, react etc.

IRS wise I think job security is much stronger than public/industry regardless of presidential election outcomes. I would say risk is very minimal. More of the impact is on the hiring front if they don’t have the budget.
For PA, I think you’ll be fine if you want to go back. Just maintain good relationships etc. Demand will always be there.
When it comes to leaving the Service, I feel the most common question asked is why did you leave such a “prestigious” role for the IRS? So give that some thought.
Usually saying you wanted to leave B4 for a better WLB doesn’t play well when you want transition back to a more hour intensive/higher compensation role.
Most whom have never worked at the IRS go off word of mouth and news articles to make a decision which has its downside because there is an implicit bias. You would need to sell your case pretty well if deciding to going back.
FWIW I’m at the Service and left B4. I really do enjoy it and my team is an amazing group. Outside of WLB, I have actually learned a ton from a tax technical perspective.
I’m being brought in around $128k and at the big four I’m currently at $135k (huge bonus raise my first year not so much my second year)
Yea I’d like to at some point hit $200k 🤷♀️
Funny I almost did officer candidate school :) 🤷♀️ I’m sure irs has its challenges
I made the jump from B4 to IRS about 2 yrs now and I've never been happier, I took a pay cut when I left PA but in 2 yrs I'm back up and over what I made in PA.
Of course your earning potential is greater in PA but also your stress level will be higher and your mental health will suffer. I believe the trade off is worth it. I am gaining a lot of technical knowledge and my WLB is awesome, I get to see my family often and don't have to miss all summer events with my kids or socially. There are a lot more benefits but those are my main ones. Just my 2 cents.
that's awesome to hear, very happy for you! My ultimate goal is to transition to gov, I'm struggling to break through to an interview - any tips/referrals are greatly appreciated!
I don’t have experience with IRS, but I do have experience with another government agency.
Getting higher levels in the scale does take quite a bit of time. Work life is insanely better in government. I love the work I do and would never consider going back to public accounting.
The only con of leaving (for me) was giving up pay progression. Pay really does stall compared to the jumps in industry, but I don’t feel underpaid. I do fine enough and I don’t feel the need to own a mansion or fly first class. It really depends on priorities and life situations.
Usually budget cuts in government mean they don’t replace people that leave but they usually don’t fire people.
I'm in a similar situation, except I was offered GS13 (7 years in PA, no tax background). I was a bit disappointed, so congrats on the GS14 offer! That's a big deal!
I have a young family and the last few months, I've been feeling like I'm physically getting too old to handle all the demands in PA as a client-facing professional. I can't get my blood pressure under control and I'm always running from one deadline to another. I've been going back and forth (and am still going back and forth because their background check is taking FOREVER), particularly when I think about the earnings potential in PA... But it's probably time for me to just... Live a little and heal, physically and mentally.
I would love to hear other people's thoughts as well!!
Thank you :)
I feel you on that . I’m single female 32 but I think my boyfriend is ready for next few steps here . Even kids or not kids I’m ✔️ 🏳️ with clients
Oh I hear you I just did my fingerprints and badge . I have next steps but am not expecting the final offer until end of January .
I guess part of me feels like something has to give 🤷♀️:)
I just applied for 3 IRS jobs last weekend.....waiting ti hear back. Any tips on how you landed your role would be helpful
Did they ask for a copy of your last two paystubs?
Four for the IRS. Do I need to worry about next year being a presidential election (possible layoffs)? Or not being accepted back to the big four or another ?
congratulations on the GS14 offer! I'm scouring the USAjobs site and hoping to get in to the IRS - do you have any suggestions or tips on what landed you the offer?
I’m at that big four on a national tax team that’s very niche. I think that experience plus being very tax technical with my answers during the interview helped
