Get a disability claim in ASAP, if you haven’t already.

You got this man.

To add to this get every single piece of medical history together that you can, military and civilian docs, and be sure you’re able to describe how and what pain and issues you’re having. Don’t downplay it or be tough when you have your VA disability exam.

Hang in there brother. Hope everything works out for you soon!

like

Hate to hear that brother. Follow the advice of what others have said here, but also if you are still looking to transition to civilian employment go look at the reserves and/or guard. You’ll still be able to keep tri care, will have supplemental income and can go on orders if you need or want to.

I don’t have a lot of advice outside of take things one day at a time, chart a path out, and use your network to support you as you’re not alone in this.

like

As another person said make sure you get your disability claim done. If you really are unemployable theats the point of the disability claim. It's not a perfect process, but it's worth giving a chance.

But if you can manage to hold down a job one thing I've realized about health insurance is the difference between Tricare and civilian health insurance is the civilian insurance usually just costs more, like maybe $15k/year more. So if your civilian employer pays more, and many do... You still come out on top.

I'm sorry to hear that! It breaks my heart to know that a family member of someone that has served this country have to go through this. Follow what other people in your same positions have done before. You got this! I will also suggest doing something with social media to share your story, I think a lot of people should know about this, and more doors will open once you share your story.

Look for remote employment. Anything thing will be a significant boost to your mental health and confidence. Not to mention, if even possible for you, look at employment like Starbucks. They pay for online school, now you can save your GI Bill for more certifications or another degree. You got this. We’ve all been through the ringer. If you ever need an outlet, this is one of them, Semper Fi family!

First, I want to say that I'm sorry you're facing this. Being responsible for kids can make everything feel so much heavier. And it is, in a way, but when you are already dealing with PTSD, anxiety, and depression, it can feel even more so. On the other hand, you are doing a fantastic job.... you're here, asking for advice, ready to do whatever you need to for your little girl. You've been through so much already, and you will be able to get through this too. With that said, what type of work are you looking for? Many employers offer remote jobs that would be more beneficial to your mental and physical health, or as others have said -- disability could be a lifesaver for you. Your daughter is lucky to have you to take care of her, and this rough patch doesn't mean that her whole life will be turned upside down. It's just a little bump in the road, and you're doing a great job. I'm sure you're also receiving mental health treatment, and keep that up. I'm not sure if your daughter (or you) would be eligible now for Medicaid through your state, but that's also worth checking in to ensure that you can receive the treatment you need and she can go to her checkups without having to pay out of pocket for them.

champva provides insurance coverage, i had to use this before i could get tricare to carry over

also once you get UI at 100%, you might also get ssdi for you and for your children
