Hi there, I’ve been told that Deloitte (London, UK) is going to make me an offer but haven’t heard back and it’s been over two weeks. The recruiter mentioned it would be around the “m2 grade”. Any idea what this pay range is? … I have 3 YOE working in NHS finance and have applied for a position in Risk Advisory, public sector. Curious what life at Deloitte is like? Does a work life balance exist?

Make sure the comp is high and posted, eliminate billable hours requirements and weekend working and make sure this is in the ad, offer optional pro bono activities and training and make sure that’s communicated in the ad… add in some remote working flexibility if at least 3 days a week and you might get somewhere. Also make sure you give them an assistant or an intern. Too many upstate firms have 10 associates sharing an assistant (meaning have to do lots of non billable work but still have relatively high billable requirements)
I was upstate Ny before I went downstate and left a few months ago because the comp and remote flexibility weren’t there. I stayed longer than I would’ve otherwise because they let me do lots of pro bono and didn’t enforce billable hours requirements and let me generate business in areas I was interested in, and when I generated business, they let me flat fee it because I didn’t enjoy tracking billable hours
Also upstate trades on relationships and reputation of the partners more than downstate. Upstate is more insular than downstate. There were plenty of firms I refused to work for because I’d worked with the partners on cases before and knew they weren’t easy to get along with, and I knew they would be a nightmare to work with..: so when one of the firm’s partners approached me and asked me if I’d come work at the firm (one of the nice partners) I said no. I didn’t feel comfortable being honest that while the comp was okay not offering any remote flexibility and having people who everyone in town knew were difficult to work was a no-go for me

Are you the guy from Syracuse who posted on reddit offering 70-75 for an associate and complained that no one wants the job? 😂

Moving upstate would be tempting for the right amount of money and benefits
