I currently work in big 4 audit but am considering a switch to tax (any size firm). Before making the leap, I’d like to figure out if it’s the right fit—are there ways to explore tax work or gain exposure while still in audit? Also, if I do decide to make the switch, what steps should I take to transition? If you’ve made this switch or have advice, I’d love to hear your insights.

Ask to be put on provision work. It’s the best tax skill and auditors will test the provision so you don’t have to transfer out of audit for it.

Following. I tried to make this move as an audit senior and had a really hard time finding a way to transfer internally/another firm that would hire me in tax. I ended up leaving public accounting and am applying for seasonal part time tax roles. So hopefully I can get experience that way.

I will say that asking to shadow tax folks at your firm could be a good first move to see if the work could interest you. That’s what I did, just sat with them for an hour or two as they reviewed a return or responded to clients and it was helpful.

What do you think are the pros and cons of working at a large insurance company vs. a small one? Considering a jump from big (been with a few carriers for ~15 years) to much smaller but growing.

I work in Group Insurance if that makes a difference.

I have been offered a position at a non-US B4 with a 2 year path to partner. I know one of the partners at the local firm and have the support of the regional service line lead, and am bringing a specialized skill set they are trying to open a new business around. The KPIs seem achievable and I’ll be in charm school to help build support within that timeline. Most of me thinks a 2 year path under these circumstances realistic but my inner skeptic is jaded. Anything I might have missed?

Hi there- I have a couple questions I’d love some insight on. What is a typical salary range for an associate dir or dir of learning & dev in NYC?

I just graduated with my PsyD in school psych & several years experience in education, clinical psych & also as an admin/EA at a marketing firm HQ but am planning on interviewing for learning & dev roles. Total burnout in education and mental health fields. Could this be an obtainable entry point level/role given my career snapshot above? Thanks!

Team just applied for a TS Clearance (defense agency). Trying to assess if it makes sense to wait till the clearance comes through (6 months to a year?) before I job hop. I'm hoping to get some clarity on the following:
1. Can my company withdraw or cancel my clearance if I leave right after I secure a TS?
2. In terms of compensation, how much value (% compensation) does a TS clearance have in the DC area? Places I'm considering: AWS, Azure, GCP, Data bricks, Appian etc.
Any advice, thanks!

What are your thoughts about wearing only a casual graphic tee for an interview at a non-tech company? It left me with a negative impression. Welcoming other perspectives, because maybe my thinking is outdated.

Just finishing my first week in as an audit intern and genuinely I have no idea what I'm doing or even a general idea of the audit process. The senior associate left the engagement last week so it's just me and an associate, and they don't have time to give me instruction.

Am I stupid or did the e-learns not prepare me for any of this? The training told me I'd be auditing cash but I haven't even touched a bank reconciliation.
