Hope this may help. I did not get an offer to return after my internship at BCG. I felt horrible, like I had wasted my shot at a great career. After applying a lot, I got some rejections and one offer for a “less prestigious” company (like you, I was 27). I took that, and found the job offered lots of challenge and growth. I tried to work on things that interested me and with people I looked up to, and did my best at everything. Over a few years, the strong performance reviews, promotions and talk of “reputation” from colleagues helped fix my dinged self esteem. Who knows, maybe the humble pie was the source of my drive and I’d probably be a worse professional without it.
Some years later, a recruiter reached out that their client, BCG, was looking for lateral hires with my skill set and level. By that point it felt like just one among many good opportunities available to me; considered staying put but decided to do it. I got my first promotion at BCG at fast pace. I feel like I have clear path to partner in a couple years, but I know I will be fine at a bunch of other companies too if ever needed.
What am I trying to say? You are super talented and driven. As you get experience, brands will matter less and your skills and achievements will matter more. So focus on those - learn, treat people well, impress the people around you with high quality work. I know this may not help in the next 3 months, but do not overthink the impact this internship thing will have in the long run. It will feel like a footnote in some years.
Reading this helped me a lot actually! I will try my best, thank you
You’ll be fine, MBB internship alone will open up doors at most boutiques - there’s always a job out there, just may be the 1000th vs 100th you apply to in a recession, but still doable
OP, once you've got a job... work with a therapist on your self-esteem. Rejection won't terrify you once you trust yourself more, and you will be rejected less. Low self-esteem is a bitch, but it can be treated
I know it can feel scary and bleak, but I promise if you were sharp enough to get an MBB internship offer, you’re going to be just fine. Feel free to DM me if you need any assistance with resume review, case prep, or whatever.
You got this pal!
No you weren't. The qualities that got you hired (over 98% of your competitors and at the end of a process designed to turn down many qualified applicants) are still intact, but you probably need to assess how much this jobs plays into your strengths and what flaws outshined these qualities
A&M is hiring
Depends on the group bc not every group at A&M is on the collections comp model. But yeah that’s pretty accurate if the role is in one of those groups
Tweet at elon for a job
Hang in there, Chief. Keep your head up and stay persistent.
Thank you.. I will try
You’ll be fine, especially at internships it’s totally normal to not get a return offer. Now you have that experience and feedback and are a stronger candidate! Market is not at its best but many consultancies are higher. You’re so early on your career so don’t worry, it’s fine to take your time!
Chief
Well yea most do. Some don't. It's not a big deal.
CPG firms are still hiring. Focus on finding a job even if that’s not the job you want.
There is no office in my region, although I have nothing here. I have no issue changing continent, although international travel scares me as it’s so outside of my comfort zone. I will apply regardless, thanks
Wishing you the best of luck! I’d be more than happy to refer you at PwC if that can help
You got this! Go to the gym or for a run! Then back to the grind. One door closes a lot more open! Happy Friday!
Smaller boutiques are hiring during this time, they are going after the big consulting work
I’ve been there. You will bounce back. The first job off school feels like a huge milestone. But you will land where you are meant to grow. Things happen for a reason
What geo? I’m likely hiring for a consulting-like role - Chicago, tech, stable/profitable company. Would love to get someone hired before Christmas.
I am in SEMEA, but honestly I would move anywhere
Try targeting middle east offices.. the recession won’t impact the region as much

“Major recession”…. What?! It’s only the young kids who have never seen an economic downturn before that are worried about this. The rest of us, we’ve been through this 3+ times before in our careers.. Calm down. There are still lots of jobs out there. You can easily get one. Go get ‘em!

Yeah yeah. The job market has never been so good as the last 5 years. It has given all new graduates unrealistic expectations. You will be fine. Things adjust, it’s all a cycle. Truly!!!
