No, it’s ridiculous—but that won’t make it stop. He’s a big partner, you’re a first year— you bite your tongue and apologize and say you’ll be sure to send conference lines only to him going forward. A lot of this job is managing people’s very immature reactions, but this guy sounds especially childish and the other partners seem to, at best, allow it to continue. Try to find other teams—maybe it’s a blessing this happened, so now you can avoid each other… good luck!

This. Unfortunately, you often have to learn the hard way who is bad to work for.

Not okay. At all. Other partners should have said something, even if it was just to calm “big deal” partner down.

Not your fault the “big deal” partner is incompetent and is taking his impotence out on you.

No. He’s an ass.

How do you set personal boundaries? One of my colleague is new to the team, so I understand she may be struggling at times to get up to speed. But she is constantly asking me to get on Zoom after work hours (8-9 pm) to walk her through stuff. Even when I told her I’m out busy, she would keep asking when would I get home so I can jump on a meeting with her.

I would appreciate any tips on training a paralegal/assistant while managing a heavy (Zoom) court and meeting schedule. My new assistant’s skill set is more narrow than I realized, and there is a lot to teach. I know training will pay off, but if there are some tried and true shortcuts I would love to hear them. My practice is almost exclusively family law.

What % of your stock investment do you trade on frequent basis? e.g., out of my $100k invested in stock market, 90k is in index funds / ETFs for long term. I was wondering if the remaining 10k I have in “trends-driven” fund or stock (e.g., Zoom, RIOT, MGNI) should I trade frequently (sell at high, buy again when low..) Will tax implications impact decision / profits?

MBB is known for fastest progression to Partner in 6-7 years and SIGNIFICANTLY better comp compared to Big 4. That said seeing some of my Big 4 friends make it to SMs in 7 years so MBB needs to amp up the meritocracy based promotions. Curious what would be the comp for a 1st year consulting partner in Big 4?

Having grown up in the lower middle class and not with much money family wise, I always thought one day when I made six figures I would have tons of money coming in, but lately I am discouraged with my “take home pay”. Combined my wife and I make about $275k, we max both our 401k accounts out and after all taxes, and other deductions we take home roughly $150k. Don’t get me wrong this is a great amount. I just always dreamed my take home would be more. Anyone else feel this way? We lose over 40%

My wife and I are due with a baby girl in few weeks. Still not aligned on the last name though. In our community it's the first name of the father which typically becomes the last name of the child. Considering she has put in most of the effort and carried the child for 9 months I strongly feel the last name of the child should be her first name though. I would like my name as the middle one. Don't see why this system continues to be patriarchal.

So this might be a better place to post this and ask this question: Uncle D has announced explicitly that most people won’t get a pay raise & bonus this year except for those promoted and high performers. Amid this crisis, are companies including other big 3, MBB, FAANG, boutique consulting firms still giving high raises and issue stocks? Can you share the impact from your firm?
