I had an opposing counsel send me a rude correspondence in which he “didn’t understand why this is so hard” and essentially called me a liar. After speaking with a colleague I decided to “take the high road” and only address the case at hand.

It’s a day later and I’m feeling like it was weak to take the high road. Has this ever happened to anyone else? If so, how’d you deal?

You didn’t take the bait. That means you won. Opposing counsel was trying to get you to retaliate. Never retaliate unless it’s a kill shot.

When in doubt, I play shocked and confused too. “I’m surprised you’ve found this troubling as well. For obvious reasons, I can’t provide too much advice on this matter, but perhaps there is someone you trust at your firm that can help walk you through it?”

Yessssssssss! It’s a respectful response that takes the high road while also highlighting the inadequacy!

"It doesn't need to be difficult, but I'm protecting the interests of my client, just like you're protecting yours. There's no need to get disrespectful here. Please monitor your tone."

I've been seeing a lot of ADCOLOR posts on linkedin, and some of the people who are liking and reposting it are some of the same people who were blatantly racist and rude to me when I worked with them. DE&I is now a core leadership competency. If you are managing diverse talent, it’s important to understand what the term “privilege” means within a DE&I context so you can lead your team to higher levels of inclusivity+develop optimal strategies for solutioning around team issues/challenges. Everyone has some aspect of privilege depending upon the context. Privilege means the absence of obstacles/barriers, not necessarily the presence of perks. Though some would say *that* itself is a perk.

15 YOE, recently started my first tech PR job at a large, stable company & have been asked to get ~20 SMEs in front of media. Subject matter is not sexy. I lead PR for all of U.S. & have no other PR colleagues. My agency’s budget is 100k/year & they’re spread too thin to hit their KPIs. I feel set up to fail & feel we should be focusing on a handful of SMEs and only our sexiest topics. Any advice on mitigating unrealistic expectations for coverage? Anyone handled similar problems in the past?

I’m sure I care a lot more than the group does, but I feel like because he went out of his way to really mentor and bring me into his group, i feel bad.
