I will not give anyone a thumbs up who doesn’t wear a tie to the interview. Ever
@SA1 @EY2 Agree to disagree... Kinda been there done that .. have realized these small judgemental opinions hurt in the longer run. In my opinion dress etc. should not be a factor.. Not trying to change anyone else's opinion.

shirt and tie, no jacket

Dress how you usually would for an interview. Or do you mean you're interviewing a client?

Tech firm = polo shirts would suffice. All others, at least a shirt and tie. No pants for either though.
Like others have said, consider the audience. Then dress a better than typical attire. If it’s a startup a polo or a collared shirt might be right. If it’s a PE form, probably full suit and tie. I think for a whole lot of companies these days a shirt without tie might be ok, but might as well err on the side of caution unless you feel strongly you don’t want the corporate shirt and tie culture and you’re happy to self select yourself out of that culture if you aren’t wearing a tie. 😂

If it's Google or a firm with similar culture don't do a suit or tie

I went with tie and then made a joke about it on the call. Broke the ice nicely.
