I have become what I swore I would never become: the client who drops work on outside counsel on the Friday afternoon of MDW due Tuesday. I. Am. The. Worst. You may throw virtual rotten fruit at me.

In this economy, your outside counsel is probably appreciating you and thinking fond thoughts

A7- in my case it’s always more like my partner trying to get work done on the weekend so I’m up all Sunday night

So why do it? Are things going to burn if the work product gets to you on Wednesday? I guess without additional context I personally find your comment an odd brag about how you might have just ruined someone’s probably needed weekend. It’s not amusing.

like

Ok, with that context, my opinion of you has improved tremendously. It’s true sometimes these things can’t be avoided, and I appreciate that you appear to have really thought about the situation before dropping the work on someone. Wish more people would approach weekend work this way.

It’s fine. It’ll be good fodder for community building... have a common enemy.

OP you're the BEST. Today I also got something at 5PM and I almost jumped for joy since I need to justify my name being on the payroll. You should do that more often. Thanks.

Same. I’m a junior associate who’s work load picked up for the first time since mid March, and I’ve been so happy to spend my weekend billing.

As an associate who has been screwed like this before, I am throwing fruit, preferably fruit that stains and will be very difficult to get out.

I know this has to happen sometimes, but this post is still...triggering.

Why would anyone feel bad about giving work to an outside counsel. So what if it’s a holiday weekend? It’s called a job. They’ll live. There’s nowhere to go anyway.

like

I’m not so concerned about the fact that you took some freedom from them. I’m more concerned about the fact that you detracted from a holiday remembering those who died fighting for us.

Omg A8 you can’t be serious right now.

OP, was this an emergency that you had to send out when and as you did, or with the benefit of hindsight could you have sent it out earlier (or later)?

I just finished a big jury trial with a senior partner (SP). There were co-parties w/separate counsel. SP mentally checked out, to the point that co-counsel was asking what SP was doing/if SP was okay. I ended up handling most everything. SP did a few parts but went rogue and did things that were offensive/risky/bad for client. It became clear that SP is not performing like SP used to and may be a liability. Do I tell someone at my firm? Don’t want to offend SP or cause drama, but I’m concerned.

Tried this Santorini retailing for $40. Very concentrated but can’t say I was blown away by it. Volcanic terroir dominates almost to the point of obscurity, and it had strong lemon notes, hints of quince, and sea salt. It clashed with Mexican food (hey I knew that beforehand but didn’t think it would clash THAT bad, and usually pair Mexican with Riesling or Gewürztraminer) but I’m going to Greece soon and wanted to drink Greek wine. I drank half at a BYOB, took the bottle home(cont’d)
