Probably not a bad thing, opens up opportunities for younger millennials to step up.
54 and then done.
Most firms have a mandatory retirement at 60 and Partners start phasing out anyway around 55-57 so why is this revolutionary?
I’m in my early 40s (technically a millennial) and early retirement is on my radar. I do think early retirements will hurt the profession from a knowledge transfer perspective but then succession planning just needs to be started earlier
Same age as you (elder millennial, 41). Fully love thinking about a mid 50s retirement right now. I do think though that when a lot of us hit that age it becomes a different equation (at least from what I see from older partners I work with). Comp is great at that point in your career, and you can kind of go into f-it mode those last few years where the worry of failure goes away and the job becomes lower stress with the highest comp of your career. Feel like I see a lot of partners get to that point and end up trying to stick around longer than they expected because of those factors.
average retirement age at most big firms is 57-8 so not much change from current practice, no impact.
