I know that some employees pay for schooling and others don’t. What is your take on going back to school to further your education? Are you more inclined to go back if they pay 100%? I believe so saw someone where Uber drivers get 100% of their tuition paid for by some college in Arizona.

If I worked for an employer who would pay 100 percent I might consider going back. But I'm always skeptical, I don't think anything I learn in a classroom would be all that helpful in my career. Except of course that people believe it's helpful, so in that sense it's helpful.

Thanks for your feedback!

That is a tough question. If it was 5 years ago or so for me, I absolutely would have gone back to school if it was 100% paid for. But I’m not so sure now. I believe education is a great thing and you pretty much have to have some kind of degree to get into most jobs, but I’m not sure I would make the commitment right now, even if it was paid for.

Wow 5 years! Thats a while!

The only reason I went back to school and got my Master's is because the company I worked for at the time paid for 100% of it. If they were paying for it then I would have been stupid not to do it haha. Plus I like school so I really did not mind going back and learning more.

Very nice! Congrats on your masters!

As a person who depended on the school of hard knocks to pay the bills, I can tell you that, if offered the option to have school paid for, I would definitely go back and gain a degree. It is the first filter we all go through when searching for work. I would be surprised if I learned any thing new, but the access a degree gives you is huge.

Thank you for your input!

I think it depends on your current education and career path. If you don’t have a bachelor’s, then my answer is yes. If you’ve got a bachelor’s and you’re going to stay in the SCM/Logistics world, then I think professional society certifications are more valuable. If you’re looking to shift career paths (and have a bachelor’s), then a master’s in that field would help.

Personally, I had a master’s degree, but no experience in SCM and couldn’t get a SCM role until I got an APICS certification (luckily I got my company to pick up the tab for that—maybe you can too).

Yes, I think it would depend on your current education and path as that would have a big effect.
