I look young 26F and minority and I work with executives and stakeholders as a product manager.

Could you share any insights or advice on navigating professional growth in environments where age and gender perceptions vary, how can I redirect the focus so it remains on my impact and results to the company?

I understand your question very well, I’ve been in your position before and sought guidance from a seasoned mentor.

What proved most effective was maintaining a high-level presence in all interactions. Learn to read the room and recognize that not every issue warrants a response. Don’t enter conversations with the intent to rescue others. Lead with facts, not emotion, and avoid being reactive. This type of role requires consistent preparedness.

Never point fingers. Clearly state the issue, but always come equipped with multiple, well-thought-out solutions—ideally with an emphasis on cost savings and operational efficiency.

You raised a legitimate question. That said, never respond publicly as though you’re being attacked or taking matters personally. This is a business environment, not a social or family setting. Nothing is personal unless it directly impacts the company’s performance, profitability, or your ability to deliver results in the role you were hired to do.

Align yourself with senior leadership while developing and strengthening the lower ranks. Success requires buy-in at every level… you need everyone.

ChatGPT helps to correct grammar and creates the write tone when writing, it’s a neat tool to lean in to.

I studied finance in undergrad and had a couple of internal audit internships. I only started a few month ago but I never saw myself doing IT Audit and I don’t like it thus far! Would I need to get a CPA in order to move into audit or something more finance/accounting oriented like FDD, Valuation, etc.? (Still need to get to 150, thinking of doing an online MAcc)

I'm at a target uni for Big 4 accounting. I applied for and received an offer for Summer 2023 Risk&FinancialAdvisory - Technology internship w Deloitte. I'd like to get into Big 4 consulting ideally when full-time. I'm an engineering student - I'm not going to be interested in IT audit. Summer 2023 will be the summer after sophomore year, so I'll be declining the full-time return offer and I'll be looking for a different internship after junior year.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.

Desperately want to get into healthcare strategy consulting. 13 years of healthcare clinical experience including project work. MBA. But keep getting told by recruiters that I don't have enough experience to be a Consultant or Manager but that I have too much experience to enter in every level such as a Senior Associate. Just one rejection after another, even when applying with internal referrals from Director or Partner levels. What am I doing wrong?

Additional Posts in Senior Managers and Directors

I have hit my wall. I cannot do public accounting any longer. I cannot deal with the constant focus on compliance, billable hour and the general unproductive behaviors/mindsets. I remember a day when we were here to help clients. Now I just feel like we are here to bill clients. I want to go help someone build something.
Now I just need to figure out how a director with a tax background can have transferable skills to something else...
