I need to convert my post tax 401k either into Roth 401k (through my employer) or Roth IRA. It sounds like Roth IRA would give me more flexibility in the future (I.e. withdrawals prior to retirement if needed), but I’d have to pay 1.25% to my financial advisor to manage it. Which option would you recommend and why?

1.25% every year on your Roth asset balance?
If so that’s high. It seems like you’d be better off doing it yourself, as you seem to have pretty good understanding what you are doing?
Why not fire the advisor and move to a robo advisor or just manage it yourself?

like

Yes, he charges 1.25% for the whole portfolio that he manages for me.
The reason I have an advisor is because he also takes care of my compliance with the firm I work for. I have to clear every security through our independence and compliance.

helpful

I don't think 1.25% fee for financial advisor worths. You can find some fixed rate CFP instead.

Why do you HAVE to pay a financial advisor to manage it?

I have my Roth IRA invested in a mix of four index funds. The money is direct deposited into the account every payday, I invest in the funds based on my allocations and I rebalance it every 3 months or so.

It’s not that hard to do and it saves a LOT of money on financial advisor and mutual fund manager fees.

Seeking feedback on GAP insurance. I had a family member who purchased a car in June or July. They were in an accident last week and it sounds like the car will be declared a total loss. Never dealt with this before, so wanted to ask if anyone has ever had an instance where the insurance didn't cover the outstanding balance of the loan and the insured then owed money? Car was $35k, $7k down, finance $28k. Gap insurance is through lender, not auto insurer.
