I pivoted into tech two years ago. I'm making good but not great money.

Anyone else in that same situation constantly consider going into the reserve or national guard?

It's like a weekly thing in my head.

On the one hand: more money and better medical, small pension @ 60, TA, etc.

On the other hand: it's the reserve.

Decisions, decisions.

I transitioned from active and went right in the reserves. I think not losing all that time served and getting a pension is worth a lot in the end. Plus the $$ from reserves is kinda nice. I help with funeral honors when able and bring in about $20k from the reserves each year

I wish I did this.

I’ve considered it but not for the cash or benies — my private sector ones are way better.

Sappy but I was proud of what I did — of the lives I tangibly impacted, and would like to be proud of something (tangible) I do again.

Rn I just make sure companies don’t let Russians steal your PII after you click the “accept all cookies” jar.

Give Acc a couple years, try b school, do civil affairs maybe?

What type of tech role?

I'm not in development, but from what I understand there is $ there. If that's the only factor you might be able to pursue more lucrative positions in your current career path.

Deloitte India has not yet communicated any offer, neither verbal nor formal.

I am more inclined towards joining Deloitte India as it is a bigger position than Capgemini.

Am I on the right track?

Why is education deemed more valuable on a pay scale than experience? Employers will pay someone with a degree and no experience a greater salary, than someone who has exhibited the experience. Understanding that the degreed person committed to school and finished, yet that doesn't diminish what the not degreed has committed to and accomplished in their careers. This has to stop!

There is almost nowhere to find reliable bonus information on Canadian firms. I’ve heard of year end bonuses ranging from 10-50% this year (not including Covid bonuses). Let’s start a thread posting year of call, rough billable hours worked and bonus as a percent of salary.

5 year call. 1850 hours. 10%.

For those of you who got out at 10, do you wish that you rode it out to 20? I’m at a crossroad and I’m not sure what to do. Have some active/reserve time, wrapping up graduate school, and am now considering either a) come back to the business world or b) go active and retire before 50 and live off a nice pension. Obviously there are draws to both. I’m an officer for what it’s worth so I can realistically retire at O-5, MAYBE O-6.
