I recently had a screener, and they sent a challenge prompt. Providing no context or research, asking how I would “fix their company” and show designs of what that would look like. It's a very vague creative prompt with no research materials. Not sure what they’re expecting. I told them none of the hypothetical really matters if there's no validation or rationale. Is this an intentional trick question, or am I supposed to give them unpaid spec work?

How do you usually handle this question?

They probably want to know your thinking and problem solving skills. You’d need to research their company and find out what products/services they provide. Your only insight to their problems is as an outsider. You could start with company’s online forums and support pages to search for common customer complaints. Once you find something, you could give them a variety of possible solutions with the caveat that you’d need to do more user testing to validate them.

They sound like they don't know what they're doing, would be a red flag to me, they sound completely clueless.

I have accepted EY IN Offer.
Now I am getting calls from EY GDS for interviews.

I am not sure if u should attend the interview or not at GDS.
When I shared this scenario with my EY IN HR, she said please don't attend it may create conflict and you may also get blacklisted.

EY GDS HR is like, you can attend the interview, there's no problem at all. We don't have such a policy. Please suggest what decision I should make.

Is it common to receive feedback after multiple interviews?

Got a rejection late last night after probably 3 hours of interviews and a take home assignment & presentation. They told me they wanted to consider me for other positions, but would like to know if there is anything actionable I can improve on for other companies.

This was for a unicorn tech/healthcare startup.

Inspired by one of my kids' favorite books, I penned this masterpiece of an Ode to Consulting:

One senior partner all alone
Calls two managing directors on the phone
Three associate partners at the door
Bring along another four
Five senior managers come overdressed
Six managers show up with a guest
Seven senior consultants arrive in a sack
Eight associates sneak in the back
Nine analysts come to work
ALL THE CONSULTANTS GO BERSERK!!!

Ok, I'll show myself out now... 😂

Hey designers, how do you choose which work projects make it into your portfolio as case studies?

I’m struggling to decide what to put in mine.

Need advice & perspectives: I got a verbal review from my manager saying he couldn’t see me as senior cuz I didn’t follow the design doc format he mandates from all designers. While I have been the only designer who does almost everything from design, UI asset creation, wiring up UI in Unity (I am in mobile gaming).
Also the product I’m on has been in MVP stage, things move extremely fast and design decisions changed constantly. He’s not on my team.

Bridge between Customer Support and Product Design?

Hiya! I am in the final round of interviews at an EdTech platform for a role that is the bridge between the Customer Support and UX/Product Design teams. I act as that bridge in my current role but on a more informal basis because it is a smaller company.

Would anyone be willing to share their perspective (positive or negative) on the Product/UX end of this relationship? I want to make sure to ask the right questions.
Thank you!

What is the difference between Principal Design Strategist & Design Strategist?

My current title is the latter and I’m interviewing for a Principal role. The title suggests it’s more senior and would appear to be a promotion on my resume but the jd sounds similar to what I’m already doing. I’m currently and IC, Principal is also IC. The only nuance I got from the recruiter is that there is no actual designing in this role.

Is this a case of title inflation?
