McKinsey & Company Has any industry experienced candidates pivot to MBB Engagement Manager before? My roommate works at FAANG as Senior Analyst (Ops, 6+ YOE) and was approached by McKinsey & Company recruiter for an EM role. He hasn’t done consulting before. Would this be too much of a risk? His goal is to pivot to PE S&O eventually.

It's doable if you're 22 and you already have 3.9M in your retirement account
OP - you’re better than this.
Hahahahaha. Seriously? There are so many variables to your question. Go find a soothsayer!
No problem, if we average historical returns each year, and you are 25(ish) now, you only need to put away $18,000(ish) each month and you will be there.
Less than a 1% chance of that OP. Do the math.
Plot twist. OP is a trust fund baby with $3.99 M in account
Just to complicate things! Your 4M in 2035 would probably be more like 2M today, are you okay with that?
Well, at least you have to share your age for a start :-D
Stop embarrassing yourselves
What a stupid post

Well if you're exiting to industry as a consultant, I presume you're an associate right now... So 2 things come into play here: 1) APCs don't command the same exit salaries as other Cs 2) there are a ton of other variables in place, including salary growth in industry, savings rate, cost of living and taxes in your area, investment growth, etc. You've provided us almost none of this information, so it's quite hard to provide you context
No? A PE mega-fund pays 300-350K, mid-market 200-300K, and a good PE Operations role pays $250K. This is relative to Consultant level exits to industry (not PL or Principal exits). You can’t tell me that the average post MBA Consultant hits the high range
Kid, life will throw you some curveballs but nothing wrong with setting goals, best of luck
Sorry for the lack of info guys. Currently 22, will hopefully be a Consultant in a year, have 150k in my retirement account as of right now. No plans as of yet to get an MBA, but if it will make my exit opps better as a C, then open to a 1 year MBA and then returning to BCG.
Plan on settling down in Atlanta or Houston
BCG APCs actually have better upside exit opportunities available than “regular” Consultant-level exits. I went the PE Operations route and had many APC colleagues go deal-side PE - with these placements more lucrative than the vast majority of Consultant peers post MBA.
Industry exits are the situation where this is not the case. MBA Consultants are much more likely to have these opportunities available than PE post-BCG, and within Industry the MBAs do have a higher upside.
No
These are hard roles to get, but I took one, and had peers take other PE jobs - all within the ranges given
