I Want to relocate to Utah but I’m not currently licensed there. I’m thinking about getting admitted to the Utah bar now (through reciprocity) to make getting a new job there easier. My question is, would my current employer find out or get notified somehow if I was admitted to another state bar? I don’t want to raise any suspicion or tip my current employer off that I might be leaving in the near future.

My goal with law school was big law. I graduated top 30% at a T50, are my chances at Big Law done?

I have mid-size firm offers, but it appears that significant big law hiring is done.

Does anyone have any suggestions for picking a firm that will get me there?

Feeling like I’ve been “bait-and-switched”…

I’ve been interviewing at an agency with the intention of filling a Director role. Recruitment reached out soon after my last meet-and-greet interview (about 6 to 7 people total) to tell me the team thinks I would be best suited for an Associate Director role with a fast follow of a Director promotion.

Recruitment can’t tell me what feedback is creating this gap but also won’t stop mentioning the positive praise and feedback the team had for me.

I need to grow my professional network, I feel lonely and little bit stuck...How did you find your mentor?

This morning I was trying to get feedback from him on a business idea and his response was: Maybe you should focus on your career since you didn’t get a job in finance and had to settle for consulting, and you work at Deloitte... it’s a sweatshop. They didn’t even give you a fast track promotion did they?

I broke up with my EX mainly because the relationship with my child and her was not the best, it sucks but I have to look out for my child, So far I am able to do the things I can do now. It is not the I am not Hoeing around but the simply fact that I can hang out with friends and go watch my son play baseball is a great feeling now. I am of counsel at a firm where I can set my own rate and keep a percentage of collections, which varies slightly depending on whether the client is one I generated or not. I’m finding that a lot of my work is for firm clients where the lawyer negotiated a flat fee (and the hours worked are less, due to efficiency etc). Former client( filed a bar grievance that was dismissed, sent me a demand letter that an attorney responded to on my behalf, and filed a BBB complaint against my non-BBB law firm) has now pro se filed a lawsuit against me in small claims court. Alleging misrepresentation, failure to file a lawsuit, and failure to advise during the process. I have phone logs, emails, and billing notes (all of which she has) that show she’s lying. We are a firm of 5 transactional attorneys and the bonus structure is very unclear. The usual “based on personal performance and firm profitability” language. I wonder how this is calculated in general. What is the percentage bracket of the bonus? Assume it is a high performance 9+ year attorney and the firm is profitable (even with COVID). The based salary is low $120k. Firm is in Tx. I’d love to hear your comments.
