Check out We-Are-Next’s Coffee At A Distance. Filter by team and pick Creative/Copy (or whatever they call it). You should be able to find a few creative recruiters, CWs, ACDs and CDs that would be happy to help you out. Best of luck from a fellow junior writer.
Yes! Amazing resource. Have been contacting people on there since it was first put up. Just wanted to try my luck here, too. :)
Sure!
There are two crucial elements to preparing for an interview.
1) confidentially speaking about your experience
2) asking a fuck ton of questions. Let me explain why this one is more important.
When you ask a lot of questions at a job interview you’re switching the power to your favor by putting yourself in control of the interview. When you ask your future employer many interview questions you’re giving them a chance to speak about their company and they’re probably more comfortable doing that and asking you questions when they don’t even know you. It will also take the pressure off of you to formulate perfect responses. In addition people like to be listen to and they like to talk so if you can ask more questions and you’re being asked you will probably flatter the ego of the person who you were asking the questions. I don’t know if you can tell that I’m not a copywriter so if that was a little wordy my apologies.
In regards to preparing for an interview...
I’m gonna recommend something that might feel silly to you at first but if you try you will understand my approach. Write down a few standard interview questions and then videotape yourself answering the questions. this will give you a sense of how you present yourself along with helping you articulate your answers aloud.
I hope that helps if you have any questions please feel free to DM me.
Wow this is great.
I absolutely love the idea of taping myself. What an excellent way to simulate seeing through the eyes of an interviewer.
I also quite appreciate your thoughts regarding asking questions, too. I’ve gotten to do a few practice interviews through volunteers on Fishbowl, and those have been super inspiring in this regard (figuring out what type of questions to ask).
To conclude, thank you so much for your thorough and extremely helpful response!
