I recently had an initial interview for a technical recruiter position. The guy on the phone stated that this is not a 9-5 job and long hours are expected. I proceed to ask how much PTO is offered and he said that is not recommend within the first 6 months of working and the harder you work the more PTO you receive. After 6 years of temporary contracts and unstable situations, I find my dream job in my dream company. All of a sudden the world goes upside down and I get laid off. I start sending hundreds of applications, with only 2 recruiters getting back to me to say I don’t have experience for the job (this is how it works in Italy). Add a terrible health situation in my family and it seems there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. Ugh. 😞

How long do y’all like resume bullets to be? I know to keep them to 1-2 lines and to keep the resume to 1 page but I’m conflicted about how to balance details vs white space. I’m in product and see some resumes with bullets averaging 5-10 words that state “Manage roadmap for $200mm product” while others use ~20 words per bullet and highlight product info, process, or impact in a bit more detail.

I would like to hit fire between 40-50. Currently 27, 185k total comp (125 for me and 60 for partner). Like my job don’t hate it don’t love it. Does an MBA make sense? I’m guessing it could take me to 170ish with that schools I’m looking at but wondering if the 40-50 retirement range makes an mba not make sense since I’d only have 10-20 years to save vs 12-22.

Can someone explain how billable hours work? At a new agency and although I had to fill timesheets at my previous agencies, they were mainly used to ensure we weren’t over servicing a client/for setting the appropriate retainer for contract renewals. I asked ppl at my agency but haven’t gotten a proper explanation. I get the impression that billing to the agency admin code isn’t recommended, and my manager said he bills everything to client codes, but that doesn’t make sense to me .

It’s hard to be motivated when rounds of layoffs happen and you see all your friends leave. But one thing that’s gotten me through all of this is working out. And when I say workout I mean the most pathetic, sad, barely completed beginner-level cardio dance routines. I’ve somehow forced myself to move while on lockdown and it’s somehow forced me to feel better. Whatever you’re doing, wherever you are: get up and move even if you don’t finish or end up going on a walk. Pls take care of yourself❤️
