I was recently asked if I’m bilingual because of my Latino name. I am, well enough to travel, but I tell people at work no because I don’t want to be asked to leverage that skill FOR FREE.

That’s not why the company hired me, so those aren’t the skills they have access to. My Latino coworker understood but others did not.

Would you display and leverage additional skills at work for free? Are you asked to if you’re bilingual?

Yeah, I'm bilingual with Spanish as my first language so I COULD translate everything and interpret during meetings, but if it's not in my job description and I'm not getting paid for it, then good luck trying to get me to do so. I know how much people pay for those services so it only makes sense that I receive similar compensation.

Early in my career, because of my cultural and ethnic background, it was assumed that I spoke a language I was only partially fluent in, and I was given a mandatory emergency assignment way over my head in that language. I flubbed it, and then got screamed at because I didn’t do it right despite me never asking to do it, or being prepared to do it. Since then I’ve gotten better at both advocating for myself, and clearly stating my limits (informal oral communication OK, official writing assignments definitely not) when it comes to the language. And I also don’t do it for free.

Hello,
I work in SAP Data Migration space.
Can anyone explain the difference between PWC SDC, PWC AC and PWC India?

I am trying to get into PWC. here are a few things I have heard so far. Is this fairly accurate?

1. PwC AC is offshore counterpart of PwC US. Good salary. No travel opportunities. Average yearly hike ~10% Mostly technical work.
2 PwC India is a pure consulting firm. Salary better than PwC AC. client facing work. Can grow as a management consultant. Great Travel opportunities.

Really struggling with a few students in my kindergarten class this year and looking for suggestions. I've been teaching K for 10 of the 16 years I've been a teacher, and have never felt as disrespected by students as I do this year. Several students continually talk, yell, and laugh over me, or make noises when I am talking. They are sent away from the group to reset and make a better choice, but usually continue when they return. Parent contact has been supportive, but hasn't helped.

After this week, this one just made me lol for 10 minutes.
