I work on a team where half of us are remote, but I was hired to work in person at HQ. My partner matched into a 1 year fellowship in a different city, and my request to work remotely for the year was just denied. This news was delivered with the assumption that I would move anyway and quit, but I don’t want to leave without a job lined up. They clarified that if I stay where I am, I’ll still have my job, but it almost feels like a soft fire (and I haven’t been here long). Is it weird if I stay?

I don’t necessarily think it’s weird to stay. I imagine the fellowship isn’t gonna pay the bills. So they probably understand you’d need to stay and line something up. But I’d def be looking harder for a new position unless you are thinking of staying long distance from your partner for the full year. I would have been looking anyways the moment they denied a remote request for a year-your circumstances sound completely reasonable and justifiable so I’d take it as they didn’t really value me anyways.

I totally agree and immediately started applying for jobs the second I got the news. I had a call with my manager today to let him know I’ve decided to stay and he reacted by saying he won’t hold me to that and I can take more time to think it over… I’m at a loss tbh.

Hello all. My company just went through an acquisition and the company did some restructuring of job titles. When they did this we were all advised the company would be making sure our jobs pay aligned with the national average.
My issue with this is my job title went from a Technical Support Supervisor to a Customer Success Team Lead. I have voiced my concerns with management but have been advised job titles are semantics. In my eyes this is a demotion, and will affect how much my job is worth.

NFW- I just had a good laugh. Earlier today I was on a video conference call reviewing a Private Label Agreement template with a larger company who wishes to brand label products we develop and manufacture. We came to a very one-sided provision and my sales VP stated “for this one, how can we just say ‘hell no’ ...nicely?” The other person on the call said we can replace the wording with just NFW (no f@$* way) and I said “I will have to add that to the defined terms section so it’s clear”

I’m talking routine low value and risk contracts (e.g., vendor services), where Legal terms won’t kill the deal. My clients blindly forward contracts.
