I worked in HR for 11 years, with my most recent role being HR Manager for a small company (12-60 employees). I shifted careers to Personal Training in December 2020 due to instability at the small company and my passion for health and wellness.
Now I am now looking to get back into an HR role, preferably in a Benefits Analyst or a Generalist role. What advice do you have for approaching companies? Do they see things like certifications and SHRM membership as advantages?
Thank you in advance!
I hope the shift was a beneficial break and helped refresh your mental and physical well-being! I think things like SHRM membership can't hurt, but I don't see them as necessities either. Thankfully, explaining job gaps and career shifts has become much easier after these last two years than it was before.
Thank you for your input. I really appreciate it!
It's definitely to your advantage to have certifications and SHRM membership to network with other folks in the profession. If you've already had 11 years, you're already way ahead of everyone else in terms of having hands on experience at the Generalist level
Thank you! Is there a specific certification you recommend?
