I recently took a new role (going on 4 months) and I’m struggling to feel connected. I’m an HR team of 2 and my VP and I get along but I’m missing the team environment. I loved my prior company and team and want to go back. I’m worried if I reach out how this will be received. 😬

I experienced this when I was transferred without notice to another department who had no experience with my job tasks. The best thing to do is get to know them, GENUINELY. Start conversations, ask questions, give compliments and truly mean it. Figure out a way to serve them. You may feel awkward at first, but soon enough, you'll start to see a change in how you all interact with one another. GOOD LUCK!!

+1 to this. There's no better way to get to know people and immerse yourself in the middle than to ask questions. People love talking about themselves; give them more opportunities to do it. You might find some things you have in common and can connect on. If you don't, get them to explain more about things that interest them and what makes them tick.

It happens! Honestly, I was in the same boat and I just...treated it like a job haha. It doesn't have the camaraderie that I did at my last role BUT I'm in an industry I wanted to transition to so it's a trade off

likehelpful

Sounds like you value collaboration and work relationships. Outside of that, do you feel that you are gaining new skills in your new position as opposed to your prior position with the old company ?

likehelpful

Why’d you make the leap?

like

It’s a new industry, small company so I’m building the infrastructure. My old company I was just maintaining.

I feel you, BP. Transferred out of a role and company I loved after 5+ years and I'm just not connecting with the new role and team. We have some choices to make, don't we?

My gut is telling me to stay a year, gain experience where I can & then start looking again. I gained a large comp increase and there's some different exposure so I'm focused on embracing those positives and working to determine how I ensure the next role is a better match.

Best of luck to you and happy to chat directly!

If you're heart is still there it's worth asking to go back. Otherwise it may just mean you need to keep looking for something else. People take jobs all the time that don't turn out as they thought after a few months. Easy to explain in an interview.

I am starting a 4-months internship at a company B in January. However, I just heard from a company T that they will interview me for their full time position.

Company T is paying me way more (twice) than Company B. And I like company T more. However, they want me to start working in February if I get this position. If I end up getting the offer, I will have to quit my internship at Company B, almost immediately after I begin the internship.

Is this okay?

Is this fucking normal? Should I say something and will I get in trouble for looking at a colleagues file?
