Depends what level you are, if just a staff it may not be a big deal
If you plan to transfer for another staff position, then I can't imagine it will make you that much more marketable (just tell them you have one section left). If you try to transfer and ask for senior, then probably. Also keep in mind the any repayment you'll have to make on the study materials when you leave. If you have a repayment amount push for a aign-on bonus to cover it from the new firm.
I'm currently 20 months in to PA and should make senior effective January 2019. In a high performer but my firm is pretty dysfunctional like that. Rather depressing.
I personally jumped from a smaller firm where I was a staff to RSM as a senior after only 14 months of starting without my CPA. You can be marketable without your CPA, the CPA title just helps.
Yes, you should pass the CPA first. Our firm won't consider you as a lateral without it.
