If you are fully remote, do you ask for permission or inform the firm before traveling to another state (if you intend to work the whole time) or do you just go?

Fun fact: Your laptop has a location tracker installed so just make sure you’re not gone for too long or IT may get pinged. More than 2 weeks likely warrants a conversation ahead of the travel.

Good to know! Thank you for the warning lol.

I am hybrid but I go into the office more than most. The firm has offices in cities where I like to visit. IF I need/want office space, I take it upon myself and reach out to the visiting office to ask if they have space. During one trip, I had a virtual hearing, so I worked from that office. Otherwise, I control my schedule ensuring that I’m not needed in-person and live my merry life. As an adult I may ask for forgiveness before I ask for your permission.

I used to be fully remote and would just go.

like

Just go. How will they know? Why would they care if you are working / not expected to come in for a meeting?

I just returned from a trip - stateside. I had a motion due, worked on it, filed it by the deadline, and kept it moving.

The partners don’t share their daily life with me, so why share yours with them. They only care that you get your work done and enter the hours.

Negotiating a settlement. I’m at $10k, opposing counsel is at $20k. My client won’t go higher than $15k. OC has come down to 17.5k and says his client won’t budge from that.
