Data security and tax implications. You should disclose your intentions to your firm to make sure you’re doing things correctly.

These are the reasons why companies hesitate to offer remote roles. Remote work is so you can balance your work and personal priorities, not so you can travel around the world to your heart’s desire
I would just note that in barracuda's reason why traveling is an abuse of WFH/remote policies, they gave two reasons.
One was not showing up for required meetings (and lying about it) which pretty explicitly contradicts the premise everyone else started the thread with of getting your job done.
The second was tax and IT policies, which vary firm to firm and of course should be adhered to. But if there is no policy and you can swing working from 1 to midnight or whatever, who cares.
We have someone on the team that went back to India during the pandemic. Everyone, including HR knows. There is nothing in the employee handbook about hardware or remote connection restrictions. Why should I care whether they are in india to take care of family or tour the country.
Tax implications arise from where the work is delivered. Each day counts. It can be considered an establishment of the firm as doing business in that country.
Back taxes for one employee can bankrupt a company?
Would love to hear more on this...
Most companies will not allow it, especially for an extended amount of time.
As long as you are available to answer emails during working hours and get your work done, I don't see why not? It would be wise not to let people know you are sailing off the coast of France during regularly scheduled Zoom meetings though lol
Some contracts don’t provide for cross border use of data. Depends.
I mean how are they going to know
It can certainly be done IF you are using your personal laptop. Can VPN into your router at home...
Tax implications shouldn't arise if they do not intend to be domiciled in Europe, right? They are only passing through...
For U.S. residents, at least, there are tax implications for work location regardless of duration or domicile.
Good to know! I was only thinking about domicile for purposes of income tax but I didn't realize the potential impact on the employer
