Message the fuck away, they can choose to not reply
I message and then don't expect a response for a while.
Rising Star
Msg anyway
I send them an email instead. If it can wait, I do set the setting in Teams to let me know when they’re available, since it could take them hours to be free again. If it’s an emergency, I write an email and message them.
DND means my message won’t pop up if they’re projecting which is the biggest concern I have when sending teams messages - so it’s the opposite sign for me…message away!
This. Once had IM pop up about a person I was sharing my screen with and it made things very uncomfortable
Would not even occur to me to not message them
Depends on who they are and what I need. If they’re on my project or team I message them regardless. If it’s someone on another team and not on my project and I just have a one off question, I wait
just like texting. I text anyways and when they're free, hopefully they read and respond
I send an email instead.

I usually try to avoid sending it when they have DND on, but when I have it on I don’t mind if people message me so long as they don’t expect a reply quickly.
I just send it anyway. I like to work async, meaning I just expect messages at any time for any reason, but I’ll only reply when I’m on the clock and available
I leave DND on but keep my email up on a different monitor. If I see an email come in from specific people I will check.
When I get up to get water etc I will check teams and might or might not provide a full response.
Usually something like. " let me get back to you I need to get this project done for xxx sorry I have a short deadline"
DND on teams means they will not get notified - unless they have specifically allowed your user ID to be able to override that.
I think most conflict avoiding ppl (like me) think DND means 'you cannot message them'.
Pro
Message. I don’t pay any attention to those things. It’s up to them to determine how/when to reply.
What and forget my thought? its just a signal not to expect an immediate reply back, but that's my assumption anyway.
If they’re DND or even just busy/red, I’ll send a quick “Do you have a moment for a quick question on X, or should we connect later when you’re free?” If they don’t respond or ask me to ping them later, I’ll wait till they’re free.
And I’ve also found the “DND prevents notifications & pop-ups” to be inconsistent at best, sometimes with funny or embarrassing results. Ergo, I initially assume someone who’s DND or Busy might be sharing their screen, and don’t send anything sensitive or personal until they’ve replied and confirmed it’s OK to chat.
People at work who do this are losers. It’s always the same people too.
People who don’t know how to manage their notifications setting and expect other to do it for them are losers.
DND usually prevents popup notifications when you're sharing screen. I have found that I will still get the notifications for a chat I have pinned to the top. So I still send things with that status, I just don't expect a quick response
