Any downsides to leaving a “Counsel” role and moving into a “Legal Affairs” role? Still practicing and representing the company, just a difference of titles, so core work remains the same - what do you think?

My background is in tech transactional. I joined a cybersecurity SaaS startup at the end of last year and now also handle more generalist matters in addition to all things commercial-related. I have a number of books on contracts that I’ve found super helpful over the years (The Tech Contracts Handbook, A Manual of Style for Contract Drafting, Sign Here, etc.). Can anyone recommend books they’ve found helpful for L&E matters, privacy matters, product matters, or marketing/advertising matters?

1st yr at a nyc v50 firm doing general transactional work. I know the lateral market for transactional lawyers is hot but not as hot for juniors. I just want a change of scenery because my current firm is bleeding good associates / not giving great training imo / and just seems small. Would lateralling this early feasible? Would it look bad on my resume?

How do I get a job at a startup? I have an accounting/finance background, but don’t enjoy that work and want to get into the startup space (been interested for years).

I am fairly green in academia (< 1 year) and I want to shift to an area of research which I always wanted to do but never could as a Ph.D. student (because of conflict of interest).
The issue I am facing is that due to lack of my documented research experience in this field (read, lack of papers) I am finding it very hard to land any grant and reviewers keep saying "The PI hasn't demonstrated any experience in said research" blah blah.
Any advice on how to overcome this?

What are actionable items one should strive for when trying to grow as a designer after landing their first role? I hear a lot about ways to grow to land the first job but very little about how to improve after you know the basics.

For buy side analysts, are there logical career moves one can make after having a couple of years of working experience?

I’ve got about 20 years cross channel experience in marketing, split between big brands and startups, and I’m considering pivoting into a data science/data analyst role. I know it will initially be a step back in comp but is it at all realistic for a person with certificate level experience in data analysis but a decent marketing management background to expect $150-200k comp or is that mostly for degreed candidates (or not realistic at all)? My partner and I are moving out of our condo building in NYC at month end, and the building management (not our landlord) has communicated to us that, on top of the 1K non-refundable fee and 1K security deposit to move out (stated in lease), they are also issuing a $1,250 "sanitization fee" for the public areas (hallways/elevators), since we happen to be moving out during COVID19. We feel this is taking advantage of tenants during this time and may not be legal. Any advice helps!

I was wondering if the review course “CPE Self Study Course” for the CFF was enough preparation to study and pass the CFF exam. The CFE review course was enough and like if you get a question wrong it explains it well so that when it comes up in a different way in the real exam you can still get it. But when I saw the outline for the CFF material and there seems to be a lot of topics so I was wondering if the review course was sufficient considering this exam is also multiple choice. Thanks!

Am I the only one who fears a third world war is among us? I've been studying the circumstances that led to WW1 and WW2, and let me tell you, we're not as far as they were. I hope the better judgment of people avoids such a catastrophic outcome.

Take victories and defeats as equals! Nothing will teach young soldiers more than making mistakes in the heat of battle that almost cost you your life. If you're still breathing, there's something to learn. Listen to it.
