If you're a vet, when did you leave the military? What was that process like?

Currently in the process of leaving the Marines in year 12 as a SSgt. It’s been a little stressful but the process is easy if you keep on track with all the stuff starting from the Initial counseling then TRS and all that stuff. What no one really tells you is the importance of getting all your stuff documented with Medical for your VA claim, along with prepping for a skillbridge if you choose that route or getting ready for employment with resumes and LinkedIn profiles.

Your unit UTC should be a big help with asking questions and getting guidance if they know what they’re talking about or you can message me and I can give you the scoop of my recent process

I retired in DEC; I made a career decision to not accept orders that would uproot my family once again…as we do in the service…that cost me. Since I did not accept a job on the path, I failed to select for O5.

It was the right time.

My last command was excellent; provided time to take care of TGPS, VA appointments, and even a few job interviews. I personally thought TGPS was worthless, and most of the transition stuff I went through I used some good friends I go to church with that helped me.

#MBA Applicants Bowl lol

Job satisfaction and fulfillment were super low. I didn’t think being an officer was 95% excel and PowerPoint work that no one cares about or doesn’t change a thing. Tired of people giving half assed products/training to companies to try to execute off of.

Promotions and pay not being based on level of effort or talent was what finally did it for me. I’ve been out for a year and have been given three raises in that time just for giving a damn and doing my best. Feels good man.

Joined the army for radical life change; left the army for radical life change. Grew both times in different ways.

When I was honorable medically discharged … everything was difficult!!

My background is in tech transactional. I joined a cybersecurity SaaS startup at the end of last year and now also handle more generalist matters in addition to all things commercial-related. Can anyone recommend books they’ve found helpful for L&E matters, privacy matters, product matters, or marketing/advertising matters?

1st yr at a nyc v50 firm doing general transactional work. I know the lateral market for transactional lawyers is hot but not as hot for juniors. Would it look bad on my resume?

I am fairly green in academia (< 1 year) and I want to shift to an area of research which I always wanted to do but never could as a Ph.D. student (because of conflict of interest).
The issue I am facing is that due to lack of my documented research experience in this field (read, lack of papers) I am finding it very hard to land any grant and reviewers keep saying "The PI hasn't demonstrated any experience in said research" blah blah.
Any advice on how to overcome this?

What are actionable items one should strive for when trying to grow as a designer after landing their first role? I hear a lot about ways to grow to land the first job but very little about how to improve after you know the basics.

I’ve got about 20 years cross channel experience in marketing, split between big brands and startups, and I’m considering pivoting into a data science/data analyst role. I know it will initially be a step back in comp but is it at all realistic for a person with certificate level experience in data analysis but a decent marketing management background to expect $150-200k comp or is that mostly for degreed candidates (or not realistic at all)? Any guidance here is greatly appreciated.

My partner and I are moving out of our condo building in NYC at month end, and the building management (not our landlord) has communicated to us that, on top of the 1K non-refundable fee and 1K security deposit to move out (stated in lease), they are also issuing a $1,250 "sanitization fee" for the public areas (hallways/elevators), since we happen to be moving out during COVID19. We feel this is taking advantage of tenants during this time and may not be legal. Any advice helps!

I was wondering if the review course “CPE Self Study Course” for the CFF was enough preparation to study and pass the CFF exam. The CFE review course was enough and like if you get a question wrong it explains it well so that when it comes up in a different way in the real exam you can still get it. But when I saw the outline for the CFF material and there seems to be a lot of topics so I was wondering if the review course was sufficient considering this exam is also multiple choice. Thanks!
